I think gamers have a problem with viewing game design in a sort of linear progress way. If someone wanted to remake an arcade game, they would likely go all the trends modern games that are difficult have (rouglikes, skill trees, lvl systems, parry systems etc) instead of going back and trying to understand the decisions of the Devs. Tho you could say a remake is to be a reflection of current vg trends, hopefully you get my point.
