how to start in Warhammer?

| i want to get into Warhammer, learning the lore, where to buy minifigs and what are the best video games, any tips?

| if you live near a city just go to the game store and ask around.
Thats how I got into it.
My dad got me into the Lord of the Rings minis and when I visited the store to buy some dwarves I saw a gryphon riding empire general of Stirland and asked if he was from Lord of the Rings lol.
Just go there and ask around. Thats where the cool people are.

| PS: there is no absolute lore guide. thats the beauty of 40k and WHF. Everything changes all the time and for your own games you can make shit up as long as its fun to play.
A good online magazine for the cool side of the hobby (the one I mainly spend time with now) is 28 Mag and free rulesets like OnePageRules.
You don't have to (and should not have to) buy billion compendiums, erratas, and codexes to enjoy the game but you do you^^

| You didn't specify which type of Warhammer you are interested in, sci-fi or fantasy. I will assume it's the sci-fi in which case you can download the pdfs of the core book which explain the lore and rules. Afterwards you can download the codex of each faction to understand their lore and units more in depth.
As for games, there is Dawn of War, Battlesector, Space Marine and Boltgun.

| You can buy their minifigs at their official website or physical stores, either their official or licensed retailers. I would avoid their official stores because the employees will upsell crap which you don't need. If there aren't any clubs near you then don't bother buying full armies, maybe just paint and collect whatever you fancy

| >>961249 im interested on Warhammer 40k specifically

| But 40k has no crack rodents

| >>961246 1d4chan does not exist anymore. Along with all its data it was wiped away like tears in the rain. Forever lost.

| >>961262 I know a few dudes who started 40k after playing the og Dawn of War which is still a damn good game. They played it and afterwards went on a wiki deepdive on Lexicanum, just reading whatever article caught their eye. There is no right way to start.
If there is something you like in the hobby, do that, pursue that, that's always the right thing to do.

get a friend with a 3d printer and save yourself a fortune.
Dawn of War is a good game series to play.
the 10th edition of 40k just came out, and there is a new starter box called Leviathan. Search for any Games Workshop stores in your area, go there and tell the staff you want to start playing 40k and they'll sell you what you need to play.

for me, listen to the adeptus ridiculous podcast and read the wiki for lore shenanigans. the show's not completely up to date or accurate all of the time, but they do a great job of introducing the basics and letting you do further reading

| >>961713 what are you talking about, 1d4chan.org is still up.

they delisted it from Google because the Googlebot kept ddosing them. it was down for a few months because root was moving houses and couldn't access the internet. it's back up now.
