I finally got around to playing Hyper Light Drifter, and it made me realize just how important movement in games is
I played the first hour or so and tbh I fucking hated it. It was boring af, felt tedious as fuck, I was interested in the story but hated the gameplay But then I bought the chain dash, and now I absolutely love it and completely understand why it's a classic
The fact that movement can make or break a game like that is wild, but it makes sense

I think this is genuinely part of why even though I love JRPGs I basically never finish them. Cause I'll glady and easily put 100+ hours into a game, I'm unemployed, but the movement in a lot of those games is usually boring. I feel like every single dev should have good movement be a top priority for their games
So, uh, recommend me games with good movement, cause now I know that's what I need them to have to actually finish them

Hyper Light Drifter takes a bit to get used to, but it's great. Love the fluid feeling of its movement.
Is chain dash the one that lets you dash multiple times in a row? I actually could never use it properly, but happy to know it enhances the game for you.
Another game that I feel got similar feel is Unsighted. It relies more on parrying than dashing though.

>>941257 JRPG is usually turn-based though? I don't think movement should be a consideration at all for turn-based games? Unless you're thinking of Tales of games or smth?

>>941259 Having even minor movement options for overworld exploration can be a big plus for games with turn-based combat. It makes navigation segments more engaging, even if it's not remotely necessary.

Warframe is the king of movement games. It would be an awful game if it didn't have the cleanest parkour of all time.
Mirror's Edge is good if you don't need anything but movement to have fun. The first game is better, but the second one is also pretty good. I wish they'd make a new one.
ROR2 has characters with lots of movement options and the time pressure to make you learn how to ure them.
and of course there's CS movement/surfing.

Deep Rock Galactic has lots of fun and smooth movement tech, but it's not necessary or the focus of the game.
If you want more 2D games, especially with gameplay like hyper light drifter, explore the roguelite genre. gungeon is the best one to start with if you like movement. there's a niche one called scourge bringer that was also a little like hyper light drifter if I remember correctly. if that's not your jam you could try katana zero or rain world.

>>941258 Yee. That's the one that let's you dash with no lag after a dash and, well, chain dashes if you time it right Unsighted looks sick from the little I've seen. I'll look into it
>>941263 Exactly this. I'm not talking movement as in just during combat, cause I like turn based games, but for overworld. So many games with turn based combat neglect overworld movement and it makes it so boring and annoying to get from place to place

>>941275 The Warframe movement is sick, but don't really like the rest of the game Mirror's Edge is a classic ROR2 I gotta get around to playing properly. I've tried it a little but struggled getting into it
>>941276 Don't got enough friends who play games for that one lol Gungeon and Katana Zero are bangers. Never heard of that second one but I'll look into it

>>941259 A good example on this would be P5. I love the SMT franchise, but the game I've played the most is P5 purely cause the movement in dungeons is somewhat interesting. Dashing from shadow to shadow, running and even just making the traversal look flashy keeps me engaged way more than walk in a straight line with nothing to do other than wait for the next random encounter
