Was planning to play big games but my gaming PC is temporarily in bad xondition rn, so I'm looking for games I can play on a 2014 laptop. I'd like to play games with interesting mechanics, preferably 2D, maybe something adventure stile. I also look for good story. For reference:
Red strings club, Papers please, Gunpoint, Paradise killer

Celeste is cool and has lots of content. Also, I unironically recommend Undertale

Return of the Obra Dinn is a must-play. Should be playable if you can run Paradise Killer.
Games published by Wadjet Eye are fantastic adventure games. I recommend Unavowed. It's got a cool party-based branching mechanic, on top of the usual point n click gameplay.

>>891072 Based. Obra Dinn is an underappreciated gem of a puzzle game. Also made by Lucas Pope, creator of Papers Please.
I recommend getting into some traditional roguelikes if you can handle playing them. CDDA and the aforementioned Elona are great, but as it is with pretty much all games of this kind, they can get complicated. They aren't really focused on story, though.

You could trying playing Musehimesama or the other cave shumps on steam. If you get into the scoring systems, you could legit spend hundreds of hours on them. Also most touhou and even the newer ones well optimized. There's a game co-developed by the cave story dev called kero-Blaster, I think I'd gamplay-wise call it a simpler, heavier , somewhat more refined version the former.

+1 for celeste, it runs great on weak computers.
if you're looking for a good story you could try LISA or Omori

>>891162 tried celeste, don't get such type of games. Lisa is good, although never actually had to finish it

I'm currently playing Citizen Sleeper, unexpectedly grappling, though I'd prefer to play something with actual gameplay and not just "choose your adventure" with pictures, heh

You coud try Shattered Pixel Dungeon. It's available on Steam for PC, and on f-droid for smartphones

Look up Pull on itch.io
It's a small, free 2d platformer centered around a mechanic of magically pulling a ball. There's puzzles and stuff, but also some story bits. Takes like an hour to complete.
