Am I the only weird g/u/rl whose thumb's fingertip starts hurting after at least 30 minutes of playing?
At first I though "well this has to be this console's d-pad being tough" but I'm noticing it is happening with any d-pad I try.
The worst part is that when I was a kid I used to play hours and hours on a GBA and a DS and it never hurted, and now playing those same consoles it does. It takes the rest of the day for me to stop noticing the little hassle.

To be more precise, the hassle is on the skin (I believe), not on the bone of the fingertip.

That doesn't sound normal. I'd look into medical causes of that sort of thing

How hard do you press those buttons?
This is a reminder to relax your shoulders and unclench your jaw.

>>862083 >go to the doctor >tell him your fingy huwts >he asks how it happened >you overexplain your epic gamer sessions >he blankly stares at you for a moment >you frown and hold up your thumb >he sighs, taking mental note of your atypical mannerisms >you leave with a big smile on your face and a mickey mouse bandaid on your thumb

>>862083 I mean I would go if I didn't know they would kick my butt and ban me forever lol. >>862097 I'm mostly unconscious about that, it's true that on the Vita or action games on a DSi when there are longer holds I notice it will eventually hurt while rpgs haven't been a problem at all. I'll try to test focusing on the pressure of the d-pad and report back.

If you can, try to get a Steam Controller. The touchpads on it are great and don't leave my thumb raw like most d-pads do, just make sure to turn off the requirement to click the touchpad in the settings.

Also the reason why your thumbs didn't hurt with the GBA and DS d-pads was probably because they were flat enough that the edges wouldn't dig into your skin like other d-pads. If you want you could try making a controller using the same parts as the DS or GBA d-pads.

Also the Steam Controller is PC only btw, but there's still the option of attempting to mod an existing controller/create a new controller to use a GBA or DS d-pad.

Update: have been playing on my gba sp and as >>78bcf8 stated, yes it didn't hurt, however DSi is otherwise, played some Four Swords and it did hurt after the 2nd boss. I do remember not having that issue 10 years ago :/
If I have to play on pc it's usually the controller's joystick or keyboard what I use so there is no problem about it, and the d-pad of the xbox one controller feels confy to not hurt.
