Is gaming industry slowed down?

| Do you also feel that a lot successful new games are just remakes/sequels of games what was releasing primarly in 90s/00s? Or are at least strongly inspired by these games? And do you think that companies are afraid to trying to make news games with new IPs and new mechanis? Or we just achieved point when nothing new can't be found? And is 50k g/u/rl having chance to enter this industry? I'm curious about your opinions ^^

| I feel that in 10s was become some big changes..

1. a lot games did become online oriented and also could become f2p
2. there was probably 3 important points
2.1. indie games was become popular, not only Minecraft, but games as Undertale, Yandere Sim, thousands games made in game maker, rpg maker, unity etc.
2.2. also was become popular survival games, like dying light, rust, 7 days to die, DayZ etc. but this wave relatively quickly silented

3/5

| 2.3. Survival games was probably begin for BR games
3. a lot original exclusive games from consoles was ported to consoles

but i feel that when i will forget about these, i feel that a lot original companies just keep making original things, or just remake old things in new. I don't feel that Nintendo, Sony, Activision, Bethesda, SEGA, Rockstar, Square Enix (yes LiS is exception), Konami, Warner etc. would make something "revolutional" in gameplay.

| also i feel that role of console gaming was little weaked, in Sony they stopped making handhelds, and only rival of Nintendo Switch will now probably become pc-handheld. Also because of chip crisis are console players forced to wait or using other device than actual generation. Xbox is not having xbox only exclusive content. (they are on pc already)

*one correction >>854047 2.4. indie developers did somehow started making satirical simulations from unknown reasons

5/6

| >>854045 back to the list, i found about Horizon II: Forbidden West one interestink thing, i feel that 20s will be now in meaning of AAA open-world games because of better performance and that players generally want it. But i feel that there are not a lot attempts to bring new worlds

what are your opinions? i'm interested to hear it ^^

| I think we can all agree that there was a golden age where things weren't figured out money wise for video game publishers. This was when developers held the keys so to speak.

But then popular formulas come into play and games stopped being about the artistic attempts of a group of individuals (bad or good) but how to make the best big mac.

Kinda like how in anime there will always be isekais and bad romcoms.

| >>854131 imagine if all the effort in those 2000 isekais per month animes was placed on just 1 anime franchise, it could be the best anime franchise ever. But no, same studio with millions of isekais and even destroying what the original manga was trying to do different, making them more the same shit than they actually are.

| >>655f0a it's even more complicated then that, because now people making those 2000 isekais grew up loving sao. So even if they stopped making big macs, they'd still make just a decent hamburger.

Go indie or go home, sometimes the industry can put down some good stuff but it's usually satirical.

| This is /v/ not /a/ :c

| i feel like this is just a byproduct of how the industry functions. AAA games take a lot of money and labour to make and the publishers are gonna want to make as much money off of it as possible. one of the easiest ways to make money is to appeal to what people already know and love, by reusing old franchises or genres that are already widely popular.

1/4

| making a new franchise or big changes to the gameplay is a pretty big risk, you dont know if people are gonna like it, how well its gonna sell, etc. thats a risk not many companies are willing to take and especially not one they would take often. so they always go back to whats familiar and to what they know will sell. this makes the industry feel kind of stale, like nothing's really changing much and every nothing new is getting made.

2/4

| indie games, however, are usually made by small teams, are smaller than AAA games and cheaper to produce, so there are a lot more variety to them both because of sheer volume and due to the fact that theres less pressure to make as much money as possible, so the devs can create more different experiences without worrying about the profit to the same extent.

3/4

| this also isnt a problem exclusive to videogames, its the same reason were getting so many marvel and star wars movies/shows, and things like generic isekai anime. i think its just easier to notice the trend with videogames cause its a much more recent artform.
