Alright g/u/rls I've never played a fallout game before what should I start with?
| It makes no difference, they're all their own self-contained stories. That said, as everyone will tell you, 1, 2, and NV are the best of the series.
| Depends on what you're looking for, really. 1 and 2 are brutal turn based rpgs with really good characters and roleplaying options.
NV is basically that but in first/third person view and a looot easier. 3 is kinda good, the roleplaying and characters are toned down a lot and the story is more streamlined but still a decent game. Fallout 4 is basically a looter shooter with the very bare minimum of roleplaying mechanics. Gunplay feels the best tho
| The cool thing about 1 and 2 is that every quest can be done without going into combat so it's possible to play as a point and click adventure.
| I think it's a good idea to see some gameplay of 1 and 2 first. If it interests you, go for it (I'd recommend 2 first). If not, then shift over to 3, 4, and NV. I'd say to start with New Vegas, personally. It's widely regarded as the best of them, and I agree with that sentiment.

| New Vegas has fun side quests (and a lot of them). The bugs are funny too, but a lot of people think its unplayable without modding it so thats worth looking into. The gunplay is pretty bad too, but the soundtrack and gameplay is really good. 10/10. Haven't played the other games

| Yeah 1&2 are good but they are old, I bounced off them the first couple of times I tried to play them but I did eventually play through and it was worth it
For the fps fallouts New Vegas is the best writing, fo4 is a looter shooter except the loot is literal garbage you upgrade everything with, and 3 is NV but jank
Try NV if you want to play fo3 do yourself a favor and get it off GOG it comes with the patches needed to play on modern windows I believe
