So, I recently played through Dark Souls 1, and is it just me or is the second half of the game way easier than the first? Idk if it's just because of my build or something, but I killed a lot of the bosses in the second half first try and it wasn't even close, but in the first half it was way more challenging. Like, in the second half there were bosses where fight would start and I'd kinda just spam attack, dodge once or twice, spam attack and then win.

And, like, idk if that's normal. I thought it was going to be increasingly challenging. Not the other way around. But it wasn't even, like, me playing that good or anything. It's just that I just kinda tore through their healthbar so much faster later on.

That’s what usually happens in the first one, the balancing is pretty bad so you can tear through everything no problem once you’re at a certain sl on any build.

>>836805 I see, I see. I was so confused lol. I mean, I still absolutely loved the game, but beating some of the later bosses and the final boss in a From Software game first try felt like cheating. It felt like something was wrong.

>>836812 hope you did the dlc as well, it’s awesome. Rest of the souls series and Elden Ring is definitely worth a try if you haven’t already.

>>836819 I'm going to! I'm doing the DLC in NG+ though. I was a little too excited about the ending and knew that I was gonna play NG+ regardless, so, yeah. I've played (but not finished) DS3 and Bloodborne, but I kinda played those alongside other people LAN style, so I've seen the whole games and stuff and will probably finish them myself one day. Elden Ring I'm buying when I get my paycheck. I've been looking forward to it for so long and stayed spoiler free. I'm super excited!

From Software games are some of my all time favourites tbh. It's just that this is my first time finishing DS1. Or any of them, I guess, since I've usually ended up watching someone else play it instead closer to the end. But DS1 I was somehow almost completely spoiler free on still and I was craving some From Soft while waiting to be able to play Elden Ring, so, yeah.

Oh, and Sekiro too ig. But that one wasn't really for me. Really cool game, but the other ones were way more interesting to me.

would you g/u/rls say that elden ring is a good souls game to start with? I'm interested in it but I've never played one before and I've heard the open world makes the difficulty curve strange

>>836837 I mean, I haven't played it yet, but I've seen tons of people who are either completely new or haven't enjoyed previous games getting into and loving that one. So, go for it!
(Also, to all g/u/rls in this thread, stay fully spoiler free with anything talked about. Not just Elden Ring, but everything From Software. Probably don't have to say it, but just to make sure.)

>stay fully spoiler free As someone who hasn't played a Souls game (bounced off the original Demon's Souls and Dark Souls), I actually quite enjoy hearing other people talk about it. Elden Ring especially. There's always something new/funny people are excited to talk about.
I don't think it'll diminish my enjoyment when I do get around to playing them, will it? Fromsoft games' feel like such a communal experience.

>>836879 Uh, I mean, that's good for you. For me it does. I like to be surprised in those games. I like to experience it myself first, because there's so much cool stuff in those games to find and stuff. After I've played through it then sure, I'll talk with others about it and hear about the things I missed and share stories and stuff, but I don't like to be spoiled on them. I've avoided all trailers, content and conversations about Elden Ring for that reason.

So, like, it's cool that you feel that way, and it sounds really nice to be able to enjoy something just as much regardless of spoilers, but that's not the case for me. So, yeah. No spoilers in this thread.

>>836837 yes it’s a great place to start, ive played all the soulsborne games and this ones the friendliest towards newcomers in terms of difficulty and variety in play styles. It’s also very lovely in design and is the latest game.

I dunno of Elden Ring is a good first Souls game. I watched a friend play it and was his first, and he got to the first castle without even knowing how to block, backstab, 2 hand weapons or do anything really. All because he missed the tutorial area and didn't have previous knowledge of the games which btw, it's SUPER easy to miss.

Elden Ring is not so souls actually, there may be some similarities but it can't be called souls

>>837079 Could you elaborate more on this? No matter how I look at it, it's a pretty solid Souls game.

The second half of Dark Souls 1 is just a drop in quality across the board.

>>837964 You think so? Imo the second half locations and enemies were way more interesting. Cooler and more varied aesthetics, creative enemies, cooler bosses, etc. And also the way it opens up even more and gives some handy mechanics and the story gets way more interesting, like, I honestly liked it a lot. Only problem I had with it was how easy it was to tear through the bosses, and the reason for that was because I really liked the designs and wanted to see them for longer.

>>838015 Yeah. Miyazaki himself apologized for how rushed the second half of DS1 was. Bandai Namco was exerting deadline pressure which led From to make hasty decisions and sloppy copypaste design. It's hit or miss after O&S sadly.

>>838018 Well, I enjoyed it at least. I can definitely notice that it was rushed in just, well, how short it is. Like, even though I found the stuff there really interesting and the designs cool and stuff, most areas went by super quickly. I mean, one of the areas that you unlock is literally just a glorified hallway into a boss room. So, like, I get it. But, I still thought it was cool.

You really learn that they cut stuff and rushed things out when you play that mod that enables que cut content. Ashes of something (forgot the name).
It's not like the game is trash pass O&S but you can tell they had to cut corners unfortunately.
But there is still many cool things. And if you count the DLC past the mid-game, then oooohohoo there is a lot of good! :3

>>838040 Ooh! I forget the name too, but I've heard about that. It sounds kinda cool.
This basically.
Haven't played the DLC yet but I'm super excited for it! I've heard lots of good stuff about it.

>>838042 I remembered it! Daughters of Ash is the mod. Enjoy your playthru! And once you've finished, I'd recommend the mod. Even if you are a pro at that point, the mod rebalances a lot of stuff so it feels like a different Dark Souls!

>>838047 That's it! Thank you! I will if I have the chance, but I don't have it on PC, so, it'll probably have to wait a while. That sounds great though!
