I just finished OPUS: Echo of Starsong. Masterpiece of a game. And also it makes me realize I like smaller games about intimate relationships (not necessarily romantic or sexual) that ends in some inevitable tragedy.
Only other games I can think of in this vein are Transistor and the DrakeNieR games. Anyone got more?

Digital: A Love Story
And the spiritual successor: Analogue: a Hate Story.
And its sequel: Hate Plus.

I'm not saying Titanfall 2 is a love story but I'm also not not saying it's a love story.

>>827567 Oh yeah! I thought about those just as I posted this. Analog / Hate Plus are more the "tragic" part than the "love" part, but the vibes fit. The ending I got for Hate Plus definitely hit me hard.

>>827569 I was mostly making a "what if Jack Cooper was a robot fucker" joke but if you'd like a serious answer:
Titanfall 2 could be interpreted as a AAA game with a platonic love subplot involving our main two leads, Jack Cooper and his titan frame: BT-7274.
The two form a bond that runs so deep that both parties end up risking their lives for each other. Which is pretty damn incredible.
For a pilot to risk his life for his machine? That's love right there.

red embrace: Hollywood a vn about vampires in 1996, LA kind of a love letter to vampire the masquerade in terms of worldbuilding, has 3 paths and Very Tragic in both the narrative and it's endings (and also fucked up, because Hollywood is a kinda fucked up place) the sex scenes are optional (and are bittersweet in every aspect anyway) you'd like to skip them (unless you are collecting CGs..and trauma), and at least 2 out of 3 relationships can be fully platonic (tho still doomed)

Rule of Rose has an excellent tragic love story and an incredibly well crafted plot and setting in general. Unfortunately the gameplay is kinda painful.

Dream Ending, great cheap VN that basically made a peaceful-end of the world scenario freak

>>827638 Have not heard of this game before but this is 100% my jam, thank you for the mention.
>>827655 I've heard of Rule of Rose. Tried watching a Let's Play but got bored halfway through. The bits of stories I've heard sound interesting though.
>>827672 Huh, yeah this looks interesting. Judging from the Steam description, the English translation doesn't seem promising though.

Saya no Uta is technically a tragic love story with a possible "good end". Great VN, but it's not for the weak souls.

>>827808 That's fair, it does take a while to get to the really interesting parts.

>>827830 any SnU ending is kinda subjective anyway, in terms of "good and evil", i mean
