Was 2021 a good year for games?

| IMO Not really. There were some good ones, but there was a generally a lot of scarcity in good games. Wbu?

| I honestly don't really remember what even came out, Halo infinite, death loop and then blank

| It was pretty good, for me at least. Bravely Default 2, Monster Hunter Rise, Metroid Dread, Shin Megami Tensei V, Outer Wilds DLC, Ys IX (global), Persona 5 Strikers (global), Guilty Gear Strive, Scarlet Nexus, Monster Hunter Stories 2, Psychonauts 2, FFXIV Endwalker, Halo Infinite... Plus a lot, a *lot* of good indies, too many to list here. Also, notably, we finally got Deltarune chapter 2, so there's that.

| >>812445 I agree, it was a really good year. Personally enjoyed No More Heroes 3 the most.

| My wishlist grew like tenfold this year. There were a lot of good games releasing this year that I haven't even been able to try (Unsighted, Inscryption, Black Book, Legend of Tianding, Outer Wilds DLC, I swear I'll get around to playing you all eventually).

Shout out to The Great Ace Attorney and NEO: The World Ends With You, which have the audacity of releasing on the exact same day.

In the AAA space, Deathloop was great, no?

| I only cared about The Good Life finally releasing. Was Hades this year?

| 2021 was also a good year for sex.

| Elona have a lot of cool updates

| It was good, but scarce. There wasn't super much stuff, but some of the stuff that game out was pretty damn goodie.

>>812469
No. That Hades 2018 early access, 2020 full release.

| *Hades was

| The indie stuff I played this year was Before Your Eyes, Mini Motorways, Slipways and Psycholonials (Andrew Hussie VN). They were all really good but that wasn't very much for a whole year. I guess maybe OMORI counts too because it was at the very end of 2020 and had its Steam Awards chance this year.

A few really good games I had already had the beta for got their 1.0s. Cruelty Squad and Wildermyth were the peak of those.

| Mostly though I spent this year catching up on backlog games and playing Valorant. Overall this year was a little sparse but not a bad at all. There was a big gap for good roguelites, but maybe Inscryption can make up for that when I play it over the holidays.

| No I lost my best friend of 20 years to depression

| >>812445 Most of the games you mentioned, I was really excited for as well but were super disappointing in the end viz MH Rise (worst MH game ever imo), SMTV (why did this take so long to dev and release??), Ys IX (I loved VIII, but IX was basically the same game with almost no innovation to the gameplay), etc.

I have my gripes with Rise, but to call it the worst MH game is a real spicy take. The only genuinely bad thing about it is the engame, which will hopefully be fixed in Sunbreak, the rest is up to personal preference maybe, but in no way objectively bad.

SMTV didn't even take *that* long, and it was worth every minute of the wait, probably my personal GOTY tbh.

Ys IX did innovate a little bit, I agree that it could've done more, but it's still a solid game in the end.

| For me, it was one of the worst years, the only franchises I was interested got really controversial remasters or remakes, at least one of them was cheap. Two of them weren't originally that good games either, but they could have chosen worse.

But that wasn't even the bad part, the bad part was to learn how toxic and nazi can some people be either defending a brand or attacking it, and I feel like I have no longer a place, neither irl or in the Internet, to talk aout what I like.

| >>812831 It's not just the endgame. Rise also had some terrible collabs, zero difficulty (despite the fights being actually harder than MHW, the existence of wirefall completely nullified all difficulty), imbalanced weapon classes (they somehow made Lance worse than ever, and even nerfed weapons like Hammer made it focused around 1 specific attack, which in hammer's case was impact crater), endgame loop being nonexistent etc. (cont.)

| (cont.) I wouldn't call Rise the worst (sorry but vanilla Tri and the first MH are the worst), it was imo a huge step backward from World despite having some improvements in some areas (mons diversity for e.g).

Wasn't SMTV announced back in like 2016-2017?

| >>812856 what franchises are you referring to. The recent remake/remasters have been subpar at best imo as well (for e.g BDSP, GTA, DeS).

Also let's not forget the revelation of companies like Blizzard and Ubisoft being a den of sexual crime. It's horrific.

| >>813156
Rise's difficulty was okay. I did find it harder than World was with its mantles at least. And wirefalling at inopportune moments can also get you killed.
My dude, the weapons were never balanced, and the spread is more or less consistent with the previous games. In your beloved World lance was also nonexistent, and hammer pretty much only relied only on big bang or slide attack if it was possible (or garbage clutch claw in Iceborne), SnS only relied on perfect rush too.

> Wasn't SMTV announced back in like 2016-2017?
Yeah, it probably was a mistake to announce it this early. We still had to wait almost twice as much between Nocturne and IV though, mind you. And V is still an amazing game, so who cares about the wait.

| I think overall this was an average year for gaming, we got some pretty awesome indie and triple A releases. On the other hand, we got some agonizingly mediocre games like Far Cry 6. Could be better, could be worse, take the bad with the good.

| >>813311 World's Lance was FAR better, it was also significantly smoother to use. If you don't believe me, go and use it. Any Lance main will you how how shitty Lance in Rise is compared to World. Also I don't like World just fyi so that "beloved World" comment was completely unnecessary, I think World's as bad as Rise in numerous areas (Clutch Claw, Mantles etc.).

| Probably port of (project) zero / fatal frame 5.. but nothing more probably

| A lot of games I enjoyed have already been listed. Personally, I don't think there's been such a thing as a bad year for gaming since the 80's. There are just bad years for gaming in specific genres.
