Can I just say that

| People always hate new Pokémon games just for the same of being a contrarian. I mean BDSP are not perfect games, the glitches are indeed problematic but it's an improvement in every way over the 4th gen titles.

Also get over Battle frontier, they're not anywhere near as imp or fun as people make them out to be.

| hot take but okay

| I disagree, I'm a nostalg/u/rl, and we all know the best pokemon game is the one I played in my adolescence, that's right.
Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver!

Nah, I just wanted to say that heartgold is the pokemon I loved, but new pokemon games are still fun for new people.
Although new pokemon games are not much for me anyways. This is just my personal take.

| Every sufficiently sizable fandom will have a whole subsection dedicated just to cry about how "it's bad" and "it was better back in my days".

| >>809357 To be fair Pokemon really didn't have any complains from their own fans until 5 years ago. Only casuals complained about it or Only Gen 1 fans. Now that scaleted to a wide public but kids with no criteria or those who go SJW on letting people enjoy anything while they are not familiar at all with the issues (they would defend the GTA Trilogy for sure). It started 5 years ago and both the opinion on Pokémon and the effort of Game Freak went down. Coincidence?

| >>809315 you have BDSP, and you have HGSS, the difference? one is a Wii game ported to Switch and the other is a DS game. Also Exp Share. Content wise they are the same, in fact HGSS had more content. You can pick between Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, Brilliant Diamond and Shinning Pearl, they are the same, different versions. They are not new at all.

Indeed, they are not bad games, they are literally the original games, you can't mess that up. But full price for that is scummy.

| The art style shows how of a mess (or rush) the development went.
- Water super realistic.
- Buildings look like Link's Awakening's whole art.
- Slope Trees.
- Humen look chibi but with no expressions at all while Pokemon don't.
- Combat fields are either really good or really bad.

Fans deserve to complain on this one, and clients deserve to complain on any product they buy. They aren't complaining because "it's 2021 and we have to complain about literally anything".

| >>809315 About Battle Frontier. Neither is fun to use honey on trees to wait hours to get luckly a Pokemon you want appears.

And they brought that back.

And now you can't even time travel (More security than Animal Crossing wtf?). I bet you would have more fun on the Battle Frontier than finding a female Combee. Or at least do something while you wait.

I personally don't care about it, but I remember Platinum's was actually fun and different from the usual Pokemon battles.

| OP speaking facts. Pokémon games always get so much shit for literally no reason. People just want to complain either to get attention for being contrarian or because they've grown up and blame the new games for not giving them the same childlike wonder, as if that's not just because of them being 30+ and cynical.

| "Can I just say that Unreal Tournament 1999 fucking ROCKS"

| I'm gonna abuse this thread's title

| >>de0ab1
Here's someone with too much free time

| >>809379 female combee are common af underground. Complain more.

| >>809372 are you kidding me? Loool DP generated huge amnt of complaints. So did Black/White, B2W2 and XYORAS.

| >>809378 the art style looks fine. They're trying something new and they didn't mess it up. Subjective complaints are subjective.

Pokémon characters showing no expression has been a staple since the 4th gen (the gen when u cld actually see the faces properly).

Also "Platinum was fun and different". That makes no sense. Especially since the gym fights and the elite 4 in BDSP are actually significantly harder than even Platinum.

| >>809424
> Pokémon characters showing no expression has been a staple
Ah, there's that staple Nintendo copium.

| As someone who has no skin in the game and hasn't played Pokemon since they still used pixel art: BDSP look fine, visually. Most of >>809378 's complains are more a matter of taste.

>>809373 has a point, though. I would not put a full 60 USD price on this remake, especially considering how close it is to the original.

| Pokemon games are just too easy for me. Zero challenge. The characters aside from their design aren't as charming as people make them out to be either. I have more fun reading the doujins than the actual dialogues.

| >>809529
I understand wanting challenging games. But what I don't understand is buying a kid's game when looking for challenging games.

| Real talk only people playing new pokeman are hardcore/babies/comfort. Even then i think hardcore play some online free equivalent.

| >>809529 It's a kid's game omg if you want challenge play Dark Souls or something. Saying that as a Souls vet and a Pokemon vet.

>>809468 Agree on both points. Not liking BDSP's visuals is a matter of TASTE, it's just SUBJECTIVE not factual.

But also agreed that $60 is an unwarranted price. The game would've been fine if sold at 30-40 USD.

| >>809378 "Let's complain about the game not fitting my taste and pass it off as facts". Get over it, you not liking the visuals is a YOU problem. Many did. Your opinions are not facts.

| >>809379 Battle Frontier is something that 99% of the player base didn't even touch or care about, let's face it. Only the hardcore meta player base care and complain about BF being excluded from remakes.

Also as for Honey trees, it's a staple of the gen just like how headbutting was a staple of 2nd gen. Skipping it would make no sense. Also just FYI, the honey trees-exclusive Pokemon (including Munchlax) can all be found underground. So that complaint makes no sense.

| >>809372 That's completely false and you know it. The whole "old games were better" charade has been going on since the 3rd gen. People hated on the changes brought on by R/S by comparing it to G/S. They also hated on DP by comparing it to previous games. Black and White especially were incredibly hated for numerous changes (esp the regional Dex).

The only Pokemon games released with no backlash were the first 2 gens, Emerald and HGSS.

| >>809704 when you know nothing about game developing or quality so you blame on someone else's taste without learning first.

You know, this games visually try to do what Animal Crossing New Horizons did right. Both realistic and cartoony, but under, as any Pokemon game ever, a limited development time.
There is also games from Pokemon that already match what this game tried but did it right. ORAS and Let's Go. Because there was an art design to follow and not just a mashup.

| >>809705 it also doesn't make sense to say 99% of the players didn't even touch it when you didn't talk to 99% of those players, if people complain about it and it is always brought to debate, that means there has to be more than just 1% of those who played it that care about it. That you don't care doesn't make your opinion the majority, you are no one, you are not even 0.1%, you are doing exactly what you critice, contraring the cotrarians.

| >>809706 what did you not get from "Only casuals complained about it or Only Gen 1 fans"? All the noise around Pokemon of "bad this bad that" as big as it is, is recent, there are always haters of new gens, but that never reached so far to the point Game Freak started to shut the fuck up about anything on development so they are not judged.

| >>809424 they are subjetive, yes, but compared to any previous Pokemon game ever, this is the case where people are most divided, either you love it or you hate it, and that's majorly a problem that, excluding high expectations on Switch, has never happened on a Pokemon game before.

| >>809424 >>809704 Also, as always on this board, people assuming.
read this again: >>809378
I said it is a mess with mixtures of different art directions, you have to be blind to not noticed something is wrong with lighting been both realistic and absent, streetlights not emitting light while enviromental super detailed shadows, with the most beatiful and detailed water ever made on a videogame with camera closes up to characters who will only blink, all at the same time.

| Never said it was good or bad, some g/u/rls need to learn to be critic even for the things they don't care, or simply don't pretend you don't care if you are defending so it so hard and, as I said before, trying to be a contrarian to contrarians, and even turning those neutral opinions like mine, to contrarians just to make you feel better.

| >>809752
I mean you definitely set it out as a bad thing ("fans deserve to complain on this one" and all that).

And I guess I am blind because I don't think the there's anything inherently wrong with the art direction. The mixed-realistic lighting and all doesn't look like "a mess".

But like, I know fuck all about art, so maybe you do have better eyes than me. As a layman it just looks decently pretty to me.

| >>809745 Who died and made you the game developing God though? Do you remotely know anything about game development? Also you complained about the art direction NOT the game development. Visuals of any game is subject to individual taste.

There's remotely nothing similar about this and ORAS. ORAS followed on XY formula. It didn't aim for an AC-type character models. Also FYI the 3D models look fine this game.

| >>809746 It makes sense because do you realise how much of the player base actually take participate in meta battles? Just because you're unable to infer such simplistic notion doesn't mean everyone else is the same.

>>809747 What part of the original DP, FRLG and BW generating backlash from the fandom did you not understand? The Casuals are the ones who don't give a fk, the fandom are the whiners. Which is why the game sells a lot despite complaints.

| >>809752 "never said it was bad" and at the same time lists a bunch of things to criticise the visuals. Get your mind right bruh. Either choose to criticise it and accept it that you're being a critic or don't and get over it. Don't do that "I'm not criticising" BS while criticising.

>>809748 Were you distracted by a bumblebee when SwSh were released? It also generated a lot of backlash about the visuals. It's still a common point of criticism among anti-SwSh.

| Also just FYI, pointing out the preposterousness of the fandom doesn't make me the contrarian to the contrary. With your logic, you're the contrarian to the contrarian of the contrary. It's a slippery slope.

| >>809373
Gurl, this is every mainline pokemon game. A large part of the reason I haven't played since 4th gen is because the games offer nothing new, except mons. Silver/Gold were the only games to mix it up in a meaningful way by allowing you access to Kanto region. Every game has been a retread since Red/Blue, and it gets worse with each gen. If you've played one game, you've played them all, barring minor changes, QOL fixes, and new mons.
