I like how there's this one g/u/rl shitting on Nintendo and it's fans even if that thread is not even remotely related to Nintendo or nintendrones at all. Takes a special kind of person.
| Tales of... games is what comes first to my mind.
It's your usual teen adventuring in fantasy world RPG. Throw in mascot character and some generic anime opening music, and you get the mold of this series.
The only unique thing in PS/PS2 days was the battle system. But now that most JRPG has moved to 3D action battle system, they has nothing unique anymore.

Tales of... are reeeeally hit or miss, in my opinion. Some titles, like Vesperia or Berseria (Symphonia or maybe Abyss even, to an extent), are actually pretty fricking good. The rest are, well... Pretty much what you have described, at best.
| Of the ones I've played, probably Withcer 3. It's just, like, the moments where it's cool it's pretty cool. Everything else is just, really boring. Just the most 5/10 game I've ever played.
