Preferably for 2, but more is fine. Was playing dead by daylight before, but to hell with it. It's a sweaty toxic cesspit with more issues than fun in it more often than not.

It Takes Two comes out this month on the 26th! It's about this married couple who are turned into dolls and go on an adventure about fixing their relationship. From the trailers shown, there's various mechanics and minigames that keep things fresh.
You can buy one copy and your friends can play it online with you for free, just like A Way Out.

Portal 2, Minecraft, Terraria, The Escapists 2, Saints Row 3 & 4 are coop games of all times. There is Spelunky but I haven't try Coop to know how is it. Streets of Rogue it's a personal pick based on it probably never be mentioned here.

Divinity Original Sin (both 1 and 2) are really good if you're into looong CRPGs.
SYNTHETIK and Enter the Gungeon are fun bite-sized roguelites about shooting guns a lot.
Wargroove is a Advance Wars-liek TBS with a co-op campaign.
Castle Crashers - fun little beat'em'up with some RPGs elements.
For the King - roguelite RPG for 3, but you can share the third character I guess.
Magicka - adventure about wizards and spells, one of the most unique spellcasting systems.

Risk of Rain 2 - roguelite looter shooter, IMO one of the best roguelites out there.
BattleBlock Theater - fun level-based platformer that's really pushing its co-op.
I guess there's always Borderlands, too.
Don't Starve Together is pretty fun as well, name describes the game pretty well.
Helldivers is hella fun, basically Star Troopers where you drop down on a planet to carry out stealth missions, which invariably end up with you triggering an alarm or a few and getting rekt.

Left4Dead is pretty active even after all the years since it launched, and it's community is usually welcoming and friendly

I would suggest Deep Rock Galactic for a fun experience. Valheim is also really nice to play with a friend.

It takes 2 is triple A price (at least here), not ready to make the investment. Thanks for the replies, I'll probably check out some I haven't yet. Helldivers seems like fun.

Monster Hunter Series. (e.g. MH World, upcoming MH Rise): It's a bit hard, but it's also purely PVE so there's (almost) no toxicity. Can co-op up to 4 players in a team. Can still be enjoyed with low time investment.
Genshin Impact: Good music, good gameplay, cross platform co-op, and a big world. Free to play, but is ultimately gacha with low rates. Please avoid if with any history of substance and or gambling addiction.

Gave Haven a try with my GF and it's absolutely awesome, you won't regret it, super cute game.
Wargroove is good too, as others have mentioned. Played it nonstop for weeks with my GF and she doesn't even like Turn-Based strategy.

Just Shapes and Beats is a fun music-based shmup. Multiplayer can drop in and out anytime.
>>746276 Genshin Impact is fun to play co-op, but be warned that you need to both be pretty far in the game to unlock it and not currently in the middle of a story quest.

>>746435 seconding this, my best friend and I have a blast playing through them every time a new entry in the series comes out.
Other suggestions: there's an amazingly functional multiplayer Morrowind mod based on OpenMW, Resident Evil 6 is a goofy mess, but it's fun (sometimes frustrating) schlock when played with a friend, Total Warhammer 1/2 have great co-op if you're a fan of strategy and 6 hour game sessions (only buy these on sale, the pricing and DLC models are predatory)

Gunfire Reborn is awesome btw.
Outward might be worth checking out if you're into open world RPGs. It's a bit janky but it still works.
If you're into smaller games look up Pacify and Devour.
Red Dead Online is like $5 and features 2 storylines that can be played with 2 to 4 people. It also has sidequests and optional PVP.
