Do you still use the D-pad for anything other than menuing?

Basically I use the D-pad for anything 2D pretty much. Fighting games, 2D platformers, grid-/menu-based combat in RPGs, top-down 2D action-adventure games (like old Zelda games) - stuff like this. And my friends think I'm a fucking weirdo for it, because "D-pad is obsolete now and the analog stick is much more comfortable and much more precise." Yes, more precise, even for fightans/platformers/menus. Am I just stuck in my old-fashioned ways? What do you g/u/rls think on the matter?

I still use it for most menus as well as a lot of games I played as a kid (regardless of genre) since that's the control scheme I'm used to. But also as a general note on the matter... play how you wanna play. Being "old-fashioned" or just nostalgic about gaming controls doesn't have to be a bad thing, and if it works for you then hell yeah :D You do you g/u/rl

It really depends on the game if (first of all) if the game let you set a d-pad as movement and if they are done correctly or it feels better to use the joystick instead (like using a dual-shock for PSX games or on PSP and PS Vita). I remember playing Sonic Mania with both joystick and d-pad swaping from one another, for some weird reason my mind was thinking it was right both ways

Sometimes I use it for combos in 2d fighters, and maybe for some extra precision in platformers. I've generally gotten way better and more used to using joystick for everything though, so, honestly it's really rare for me. Oh, and, in Spelunky I only used D-pad. I honestly couldn't tell you if that game has joystick as an option. If it does, I've never used it. Not completely sure why.

D-pads are still the best way to control Ridge Racer games, so they're the best.

I still use D-pad a lot, but admittedly I mostly play turn-based games. Menus, tactical grids, things like that. My hands are twitchy af, so I usually try to avoid the analog stick.

Only time I remember using the D-pad was when playing Ratchet & Clank on the PS2

2D platformers!! A D-pad much more precise than an analog stick for movement.

I use dpad for all 2D games. I got into the habit because I bought a gamepad specifically to play celeste.
