Do you strategically play fighting games or button smash all the way?

Strategically button smash

>>694693 Pretty much this. I try to think through my moves, plan ahead and react to what my opponent's doing, but my inputs tend to get pretty mashy, especially when I "get in the moment".

I practice combo until I can rely on muscle memory for them, so when playing my brain can just go button mash while my fingers subconsciously do the combo.

Play strategically. I have no reason to button mash. I'll try inputs on the fly, sure, I play as deliberately as I can.

Depends what game, with who, and how serious I am. Street Fighter with friends? Button mash. Mortal Kombat with the bestie snd we take it seriously? Strategic.
I picked those bc SF lends itself to a more sloppy play style, whereas games with extremely deliberate inputs will not play well for a button masher.
Weirdly it was Smash Bros that got me to stop mashing and start learning moves and timing my blows.
