is there no modern "character" franchise at all
| I think it's harder to make your character famous today because there already are so many famous ones.

| Yeah, just disguised in grittier, more sellable forms : Doomguy, Captain Price, Geralt, so on. The children market is already taken up by shitty mobile games and YouTube superhero pregnancy dramas so the regular ol' game industry is pandering to teenagers and young adults, who are more likely to eat up Keanu Reeves or a disproportionate anime girl/trap/flavor-of-the-month-thing rather than an animal from cereal boxes.

| I've actually been thinking about that myself. It does seem like that kind of stuff has been taken over by indie devs though. Everyone knows Shovel Knight, Isaac, the Fez fuck, (soon) Keu, Hollow Knight etc.
I think the big companies don't really need any more, and that's why they're not making them. Nintendo still uses Mario and all their other characters a lot. Same with other companies.

If you don't know who any of them are you stopped following video games back when Halo first released. Keu, sure, that was partly a joke. The guy from Fez, you're a little uncultured, but the game underperformed because the Dev was an asshole. The others though are extremely famous and talked about fucking everywhere. Either you're joking, my first line isn't a joke or you exclusively play and look at and hear about AAA games.

My point is just that these are very big, recognisable franchises. Mascots/very recognisable unique characters are still very much a thing. It's just that most big companies already have them, so all the new ones come from smaller companies/developers. If you exclusively played fighting games back in the old days you might not have recognised Sonic or Mario immediately, but that doesn't mean they're not famous recognisable characters.

Well, I'm against doing sexual stuff to kids due to morals, but the idea is very attractive and the younger ones are often a lot more attractive than the ones my age. 11-13 is really nice. I used to say I wasn't attracted to them irl, but I realized after a while that I was just lying to myself in an attempt to not hate myself.

| am I just dumb or all the "company mascot" franchises come from the past? (donkey kong, banjo kazooie, spyro, crash bandicoot, rayman, etc) I mean the original devs of these franchises are now making cinematic/shooter stuff. but that's odd because last time I checked children are still a big gaming audience (I assume that was the idea originally). unless we include indie devs then we have sans undertale except he isn't even the main character so he doesn't count sorry toby :|
