Is the Switch worth it if getting it eats up my entire saving?

| Title. And I'm including one $60 game in that.

I'm a univ student and my income/allowance is pretty erratic. On one hand I don't really have any other pricey hobbies that I'm saving up for, on the other hand not having money in the bank makes me nervous.

And considering the price of Switch games, I might only be able to buy maybe two-three full priced games.

Sell me on getting the Switch

| First of all, you should wait until the new revision of the original model hits stores, will cost the same and has much 3 times better battery life.
Now with the games. Firstly, all indie games you can name are on Switch, if you have a friend you can share the second joy-con. Stardew Valley, Streets of Rogue, The Binding of Isaac, Dead Cells, Shovel Knight, Worms WMD, The Escapists 1&2, Terraria, Minecraft...

| Second: Nintendo games, they are usually good but if you want to play Online they are the worst to be played, once you try other 3rd party games you see Online works like in any other platform if not better. Yeah, NSO is literally shit, tske that in consideration, I only got it because I'm always home, but it's a servicr I never recommend is not worth even 1$€

| Third: third party games. This is literally an adventure, some games do a really great job porting their games (Bethesda) others don't care much (Deep Silver or Ark devs) make research first.

| I would advise against you getting a Switch until you have some extra money.

You never know when you'll need some cash so it's dangerous to go without any.

BUT it is an awesome videogame with a solid library.

| Give me your money instead.

| 2-3 games are not worth the price of an entire console/handheld.

Go emulate older version of games that you want to play instead. PSP & NDS can be emulated by most midrange phones that came out 1-2 years ago.

| >>507d6d
A solid library doesn't mean much if I can't afford the games tho. Indie games are within my budget, but it'll be Switch's portability and easy multiplayer vs Steam's cheap regional pricing.

>>584905
Oh trust me, I've been doing that for ages. But it kinda sucks to always be 5 years late.

>>584863
There's going to be a new version? First I've heard of it. But I'm probably gonna get Switch Lite anyway

| >>584912

I'd strongly recommend the actual Switch over the Switch-lite, personally. But you shouldn't put yourself in destitution for video gaming. Wait a little a bit longer in case you need money for something else.

| >>584913 yeah, right now you are not missing out that much, Botw and Odyssey are overrated, you may have a long play on them, but you will only have one. Smash is not a finished game. As a portable indie machine it's the best. As a jailbreaked machined it has too much potential but for AAA games I recommend tou the console as much as a Ps4, 0% recommendation, AAA are seasoned games, and Nintendo isn't giving the replayablility they used to give.

| No. Having a saving for emergency is critical these days.

| If you don't feel comfortable not having money you should wait, but the Switch is hands down my favourite video game console ever. It's extremely easy to travel with, it has every indie game, it has Nintendo games and it has some amazing ports of amazing games.

Don't buy Switch lite. You'll most likely regret it. The price difference isn't too big, and being able to hook it up to a screen is huge. The local multiplayer and better controllers are absolutely worth the little extra.

| Like, I never use handheld mode with the joycons attached. When I'm not playing in TV mode I set it up on a table and play with a pro controller. I also have problems with hands and arms cramping up, so normal handheld mode kills me.

Also, playing BotW on a big screen is breathtaking, first person games are a lot harder in handheld, and some games like FFVI are designed for TV, which means the characters and menus are really hard to see in handheld. So don't buy lite.

| >>584947
I have to disagree. BotW and Odyssey are absolutely incredible games, they're probably just not your cup of tea. BotW is absolutely huge with things to do and places to explore everywhere, making the game a lot of fun even after you beat it. If you have the DLC you also have master mode, which makes restarting the game fun.

Mario Odyssey is definitely the kind of game where you play through once, but a 60 hour Mario game is awesome if you like platformers.

| >>585017 never said I didn't like Botw but it's like Odyssey, once you have completed it once (I'm counting both normal and hard modes) and you have discovered everything there isn't much to do, maybe take a walk and apreciate the enviorement, but emptiness compared to any other open world game on Switch takes away your inmersion.
I played it a third time, with mods on my Pc (because i don't want to risk my Switch yet) because it offers something new. Forgot I didn't finished lol.

| So if I have to do something like modding to still enjoy the game I think it's not so worth. Anyways Botw's sequel takes places in the same Hyrule (hopefully there are some tweaks) so there isn't any point to still explore it, because then there won't be much new to do in the sequel, I want to forget a little to try and enjoy it(even though it's imposible, I'm cursed with not forgetting maps of videogames xD)

| >>585026
You're complaining that a game with literally hundreds of hours of gameplay isn't endless? I think you might be mental. Of course you have nothing left to do in the game if you 100% complete it with all DLC on both difficulties. You shouldn't expect games to have more to offer after it has given you literal weeks of entertainment. Do you complain about TBoI having too few items or Minecraft not having big enough maps as well?

| >>585028 ouch that was a major roast!
Good thing a Pokémon trainer always carries the right items, do you want a burn heal, >>585026 ?

| Get a PC instead.

| >>585028 endless is not equal replayability, I have played Ocarina of Time thousand of hours and the content is minor compared. Don't write words where I didn't.

| I like Botw but it's not like for example GTA games, games I have played more than 500 hours, where you can walk around, see how Npcs interact with each other and even wild life in the middle of the city. You can play without the need of being hostile. You can mess around and fuck everything if you want to and there are unique locations. Botw have ruins and you should be grateful.

| There are 120 shrines and 60 of them are clones of the other half (being generous), they are still the major point on the game and that for me is good, there is challenge. Korok seeds are a waste of time, and I didn't even cared about Dlc in the next playtrhoughs because I really don't give a fuck about motorcycles or the story of this game. With your third start you start to notice the game's very limited and you start to follow a script unintencionally leaved by devs.

| Minecraft it's a game I haven't stoped played since 2011, and if you think about it the game doesn't have that much content, so why it is my most played game of all time when you are thinking I might hate it?

As I said, quantity doesn't mean replayability.

| >>585031 thanks trainer but I'll go for Facade

| >>585045 I'm more of a hex guy myself but facade is also a good strategy, especially if your opponent is normal type

Re: Switch Lite
Is $100 really "not a big difference"? Here $100 can feed you for a month.

I usually play handheld games anyway bc my ADHD makes it uncomfortable to sit in one place. It's just the multiplayer aspect that makes me nervous about Switch Lite, since we can't take the joy con off.

| >>585026
I think BotW 2's map will be significantly different than BotW 1, even if they reuse some parts. We really don't have enough info to speculate yet.

| >>585054 I have ADHD too and the joycons are marvelous to me, I can play on TV mode while shifting around and keeping my arms on whatever position I feel comfortable, that's something I've been wanting since the wii because, though better than traditional controllers, the nunchuk cable still felt too short and limiting for my arms.
It also adds a whole new dimension of moving around, I often keep switching between portable and TV modes on a whim.

| >>585054 you can really wait a month or two to save that difference. Please don't buy a console in a hurry, games can wait, your regrets won't.

>>585056 that's what everyone is hoping for.

| >>585043
All I heard you say was "I prefer to replay a much more linear game because I enjoy it more, and that somehow means that BotW has bad replay value. I also prefer the GTA over BotW. Two games that aren't supposed to be similar, but I'll still complain that they aren't."

If you actually read what I said you'd also realize that I didn't think you disliked Minecraft. I was calling you out for probably thinking the most endless game ever created has bad replay value.

| >>585103 when did I say I prefer linear games and that somehow is the fault of Botw? This conversation with you makes no sense if you are going to put words where I didn't all the time and it's over. I just don't recommend a 300$ console just for seasoned games like Botw and Odyssey and that's all. Defend the game if you want to with your own words and don't put them in someone else's mouth.

| >>585110
I did not say that you prefer linear games and that that's BotWs fault. I recommend that you properly read what I say before you respond, because at this point you are the one putting words in my mouth. It's probably not your fault that you're not good with English, so I won't blame you for that but just know that you've understood my replies to you incorrectly.

I agree that buying a console just for those two games isn't worth it if they don't have the money though.

| >>585113 like a conversation between sea breams

| >>585120
I'm not familiar with that expression, but maybe?

| >>585089
Ooh yeah I remember the Wii. I love being able to hold the controller in whatever position.

Ok sure, y'all convinced me. I'll get the regular Switch instead of the Lite. Now what's this about the revision to the original model that >>57f3f7 mentioned?
-op

| >>585123
I have no idea. Haven't heard of it.

| >>585123 >>585167 this revision should perform just a little better than the original version + longer battery life than even Switch Lite (around 9 hours, Switch Lite is around 6 hours and the original is 3 hours) this version should be out in the west by September and the price will be the same, the only visual change is that they changed the box where you buy it, it now is fully red instead of white & red.

Also it should prevet current hacking like Switch Lite

| >>87c3cb
Get a hackable unit, pirate everything. This will solve 20 bucks for online and 60 bucks a pop for games problem since you won't be able to play online and won't have to buy games.

| >>585541 I mean hacking it you can run emulators and now there is even an Android setup so it opens up to a lot of Play Store games without the need of piracy. Plus RetroArch. Piracy should only be an option if you REALLY need it or if you don't support the company at all (or devs). And if possible with older platforms. Hacking is not piracy, as it opens doors to new features or games coming, or modding games.

| >>585541 >>585565
Nahh, mate. I've hacked every consoles I have. I think it's about time I go legit. Don't want to risk it on an $200+ machine either.

| >>585584
You should go further and set up your own mario maker server

| >>585584
>I operate on allowance that makes me question spending 200 bucks on a console but let me go legit
Nah, you need to finish uni and get a job. That's when you go legit.

| >>585738
Well you're not wrong. But I still think it's a bit too early to risk hacking it right now. By the time I finish uni, homebrew might have advanced enough that I'm willing to hack it.

| How's the switch emulator working

| That's silly, a Switch doesn't have mouths. And I don't see why it would harbour the acquired taste of currency. Also, in what region of your brain do you lack the neurons to make decisions for yourself? You have already prooven yourself to work up towards being a university student, yet some how over some financial debaucle you seem ask for assistance to make control over your money on some board to people you don't personally know. I am really confused over your decision making.

| >>585812 r/iamverysmart

| >>585812 do you know anything about socialising and the opinions of others? Don't worry, it's not a religion

| >>585834 No, I don't. I am too busy masturbating, right now. You can ask me again later once I orgasm all over myself, until my hands and crotch are completely covered in my genital secretions. It feels so good to be having sex so much. I love cumming a lot, and I am addicted. I suggest you follow through, as well. In fact, what I typed and posted just then might of been on accident because I was wiping my keyboard covered in cum with a drenched rag not knowing what keys I pressed.

| >>585834
I think his goal may be to be purposefully rejected by society. People like that should just be ignored.

| ...

Well thread, we had a good run.

Sincere thanks and props to y'all who pop in for some good Switch convo. You made me feel better about getting the console (don't worry, I'll make sure it doesn't entirely drain my saving). Good talk.

| If it's going to take up your entire savings, clearly you could buy something better with your damn money. Stop being a consumerist moron.

| >>585955
Seems, I was too late to the thread. OP you're an idiot. Have fun scrambling up more money for a "Switch Pro" next year.
