| I'd say 15 years in general to be reasonably retro, but with these last years with so much realismslop artstyles in gaming,
I think nothing will be considered retro anymore (from now on, I mean) because everything that tries to go for the "realistic aesthetic" will look almost the exact same.
Only when true (SAO-like) Full Dive VR Gaming becomes a thing... Only then the (current) gaming platforms and games will be considered "retro".

games made after 1999 are not retro, though exceptions for games made in 2000 are reasonable

For the X years use I'd argue you should start counting from near the end of its life not the beginning, ds came out in 2004 but the 3ds didn't exist until 2011 so the ds is outdated by only ~15 years at best and only two generations being the 3ds and switch

It will soon be 20 years old, and the graphics are all pixels and most ds games have "retro" vibes, but some games like zelda spirit tracks or final fantasy games are still quite modern and complete when compared with today's games, and 20 years isn't that old.
Is the switch already a retro thing ?
It's quite limited and old (9 years), like a ds.
