Should i even bother with fighting games if i don't plan on improving?

I love fighting games, but man i'm such a lazy piece of shit, i can't see myself labing and all that shit. It's prolly half the fun for some and i completely get it! But i'm way too lazy for spending time on it. Played some KOF 98' UM online matches tonight, and yep yep! Got my ass kicked hard. Those players knew very well what they we're doing, i can't blame anyone but myself. Game has rollback and everything.

Love the shit out of SNK fighting games, 98' is such a joy to play, and thank the heavens my sister is always down to play some. We're pretty much evenly matched, so matches are always fun and fair.
Whole different story in online mode though, there's no mercy out there even in casual matches. Playing with a PS4 controller prolly doesn't help either, i think... might not be as optimal for inputs.

But that also can be just completely BS. Because when my STEPFATHER plays it- He inputs everything almost perfectly, and the moves come out for him with ease. And honestly... fair i guess, he played Street Fighter 2 on SNES when little. Though when i do it, moves won't come out for nothing in the world. My usual method of play is: Input for the move is ⬇️↘️➡️? Spin the joystick in 360° with the demanded punch or kick until something comes out.

Only way i ever managed to get moves to come out in 2D fighters. At least with a controller. Argh! I fucking got serious fighting game skill issues. I just feel like venting the frustration at this point if i'm being honest.
And if i plan on staying like that... do i even deserve the fighting games that i own? Wouldn't it be better if someone who actually plays decent just busted into my housed, knocked my ass uncouncions for sucking and took the games away?

I'm feeling that pain OP. I love fighting games. I'm very bad at it. It's awesome when my sibling wants to play with me because we can be evenly matched, but I'm more motivated than she is, so most of the time I have to throw myself at the mercy of online.
I try not to let the losses get to me. I figure out where I'm bad and just try to practice it out. Some days I just play vs CPU or arcade, it's good to just get a feel of the controller.

Same here. I love fighting games and always get a lot of enjoyment out of playing them, but since games aren't about enjoyment I'm thinking of quitting.

>>1079687 re: input issues, you really shouldn't overthink it. 236 is just press down and then roll until forward. Some people like playing with the D-pad more than the analog, if that helps.
That said, I recently got a leverless controller and it's genuinely sooo much nicer especially for the special inputs. It does take a while to get used to, though. You can try playing with keyboard first to get a feel before buying one.

If you like reading, I got a book for you!
It's got a bunch of good advice on how to approach getting good at fighting games, and some honesty about the kind of effort that will be needed. Reading it has been good motivation for me.
Wow, this is actually pretty nice of you! Book seems very legit too, thanks! But also this leverless controller you mentioned- i actually never heard of it before, can't even imagine a picture of what it looks like. I supposed i could just look it up, but i'd like to hear you tell me about it some.

>>1079730 I feel like I'm being flirted with but I like talking so I'll just answer anyway.
What do you want me to do though, beam the image to your mind?? Just look it up. It's just an arcade controller with the lever replaced with buttons. I like it mainly because it spreads out the movement input burden from my thumb to my whole hand. Having less floaty input is also really nice, less chance of misinput once you get used to it.

>>1079788 Oh it's one of those then, never knew the name of it. Also nah, i wasn't flirting, i just wanted a dumb excuse to have a longer-ish consersation over the current topic. Because i also like talking, a little too much in fact.
