So I have some Jast VNs that I was saving up for and just today I found out about GOG's preservation program. So I'm browsing GOG for the first time and I realize that they've got the almost the same VNs as Jast does. There's some not included, but like all the notable ones are on both. Some are on sale on GOG though, and not Jast. I know both sites are DRM free but is there really any difference on where you get them? In the end its the same drm free VN right?

Did you even bother doing any research yourself? I'm asking because I lazily copypasted your title into duckduckgo and the answer is on page 1. Now, I'm in a good mood tonight so I'm not gonna give you a smug insult and call you a lazy fatass(and smug it would be, because calling you a lazy fatass, I most certainly did) but instead I'll link you this. https://www.gog.com/forum/general/why_should_somebody_prefer_the_gog_store

I’d never heard of JASTUSA that’s interesting. I appreciate how itch.io has a lot of things I’ve liked so I bought the milk Chan game from them today instead of steam or gog if it’s on there, but I like gog too

piracy is the only morally correct choice

>>1072406 How is pirating from small indie studios the only ethical choice? Buying and supporting their works is also solid a choice, you know. Unlike AAA studios, most small indie studios don't shit on us. They're just working people trying to get food on their table.

>>1072433 That’s the problem. If they have food they continue to make games. The ONLY way to stop them is to shut their studios down!

>>1072327 idk what jast clearly is, but depends on your usage preference, do you prefer gog library client or jast library client? steam is option too but if you want drm-free versions piracy is also option somehow (if you own license of course for "backup"), if you want some tracking maybe vndb can be helpful? personally i use steam for everything if i can but i don't play vns very often so i can't tell what is best

From a customer point of view, I would say there is no benefit buying them from GOG. One of the major upsides of DRM-free games is that you don't have to care where you buy them from. And the best way to avoid vendor lock-in is by splitting your purchases over as many stores as possible. "Store loyalty" is a trap that should be avoided.

The only situation where I buy from GOG without thinking further is when a game is not available DRM-free from another source (to be fair, this is the case of a lot of games). This is not against GOG itself, but since most of my DRM-free games are coming from GOG already I try to balance that by getting my new games elsewhere when it is an option.
