Theres homeless everywhere, everybody’s moving out (even upper middle class people) because the cost of living is insane, we have one of the worst opiate crises in the nation with thousands dying every year, and what does our city decide to spend money on?
Millions of dollars on goddamn trash cans. Apparently it’s really important that we have our own bespoke trash cans. I’ll have my popcorn ready for when the FBI finds the kickbacks in this scheme as they have before with our gov

>>987407 Correct.>>987409 While states usually do well on balancing their budgets (in part because they can pilfer things like WIC and food stamps to do so), cities don't usually do as good a job.

How the fuck do you spend over a million in trash cans? Did they buy them off some designer brand or what, lmao. Sadly that kind of situation is way too common all over the world.

Our small scandinavian city purchased a table for 760 000 kronor (roughly $73000) for the cityhall but got rid of it less than half a year later. It ended up in the home of one of the richest people in our city who didn't pay a single krona for it.
Some time ago a neighbouring city paid the equalient of $4.5 million to build two authentic old-timey sailboats and less than one month after their maiden voyage one of the politicans in charge bought them for $2 each.

>>987496 Sweden has always been in a fight with the ultra-rich.
The cycle goes like this: Every 8-12 years people seem to suffer from collective amnesia and vote for the party of the ultra-rich. After 1 or 2 terms everyone realise they got duped, everything got more expensive and people got less freedoms. People get pissed and vouch never to vote for them again. Rince and repeat every 8 to 12 years.
Everything that gets built up gets torned down eventually.
