IMO cringing at anything wholesome is a sign of severe depression. The normalization and expectation of depressive behavior in internet discourse, along with "cringe culture" (i.e. just straight up bullying anyone who enjoys their life) contributes the depressive cycle that many (especially young people) find themselves in.

you have blended 4 different unrelated issues in a cauldron of unbridled autism, ultimately writing a post that is nothing more but fox news soundbites
well done fam

I mean, it can be discussed but is it not just a word for something they don't find fun? It's definitely a decent concept to work along with but wouldn't this pull out the elephant in the room and call it out on ourselfs?

Cringe culture is rooted in bigotry. The people labeled "cringe" (at least in the beginning of when the word became popular) has always just been, like, disabled people and queers and stuff just tryna live their lives Whether dislike of "the other" has something to do with specifically depression I can't answer, but it definitely ain't sane person behaviour

>>985950>>985952 The point went right over your head, huh?
>>986011 I keep seeing people who get labeled as cringe on the internet for just doing normal healthy stuff, or just wholesome stuff in general. There's no reason to dislike that unless you identify happy, wholesome interactions as "the other" which is definetly a sign of severe depression.

I cringe at romance NGL, although my only reference for "romance" are manga romcoms and vanilla hentai, pretty cringe

"cringe" isn't real. It was a throwaway meme that oversocialized public school victims and social media addicts latched onto because they have such an exaggerated fear of losing face that they get crippling secondhand embarrassment from any idea or behavior more risque than what you'd talk to the resident HR drone about at the watercooler. Just more evidence that Lain was right, humans are biologically unready for the internet

cringe is real we call it "fremdschämen" where I come form

>>986068 The fact that the Germans have a dedicated smushed up word chimera for secondhand embarrassment is entirely unsurprising and only reinforces my point that cringe is experienced exclusively by soulless automata

Jokes aside I'd say that cringe is a different and more unhealthy phenomenon than typical secondhand embarrassment/fremdschämen, most people will feel a little bad watching someone's pants fall down in public but that's a far cry from the compulsive ironic detachment from anything potentially embarrassing that I've seen from a lot of people who think of things in terms of cringe vs based Some people can't turn off their sense of social shame even when totally anonymous, it's weird

you g/u/rls really, *really* need to get outside and socialize more.

>>986061 Yeah, that's a valid take I'd say. For some it's probably less of hating happiness in general and more hating those specific types of people being happy, but regardless I feel like just generally being uncomfortable or angered by happiness gotta mean you got something like that going on

Some wholesome behavior is socially inappropriate and can still be cringe. As a signifier for poor social development, think like actual real life weebs, not the reclaimed version of the term.
Be happy but don't be retarded. Unless it's like a conscious choice. You can ask for free hugs at cons, not at work.

>>986353 I don't think asking work mates for hugs is considered normal behaviour anywhere though. Aren't you moving the goalpost a little?

>>33b49f it's contextual, one is considered wholesome in one context and might not be in the other and to some it could be considered wholesome.
When most people cringe at something "wholesome" I'm saying it's mostly at something inappropriate and they don't need a lithium treatment.
Please provide an example that would help describes your version of wholesome.
