Why does the button at the top sometimes an anime character and sometimes a refresh icon?

| What triggers which to appear?


| >>885985 anime character is thread watcher-chan. when you create a thread, and someone replies, she will appear to let you know there are unreads. when there are no unread messages on any threads you follow, it shows the refresh icon.
