"everyone" is singular because you treat them as one individual being rather than as a collective of human beings

| I get the tenses, it's useful to know if something already happened or will happen without having to be specific.
But why should I care if something is plural?? Like, it's either 1 or 1.0001 to 1 trillion billion, that's not useful at all! What's more, how is "everyone" singular?? It wasn't useful before and now it's just plain pedantry.
