Question to the mods

| I'd appreciate it if y'all could clarify the rules on what's fine and not when it comes to LGBT shit. Cause with LGBT related threads y'all sometimes lock them, sometimes don't, sometimes move them, and I have no idea wtf rules you operate on with that.

Do you not want it mentioned ever? Do you see it as a political topic? Is it the topic y'all got a problem with or is it the people who spam weird shit that's the issue?
I'm very confused and have never found an answer to this.

| First rule says something like: mods can do what they whant. There is no logic in this.

| Pretty sure it ties into the "Don't be an asshole" rule, so LGBT stuff might be closed as a violation of that, depending on the context

| Like: "thread talks about LGBT, and someone decides to be a ___phobic ass".

| >>882251 There is no such rule as "Don't be an asshole".

| >>882253 It's a general life rule, not a /u/ rule

| >>882254 There is no such rule in life, liar.

| >>882250
That's not helpful in any way though. Also, where is the rules? I've tried but can't find anything.

>>bcafde
But that doesn't make sense. Mods have the power to ban people as well as remove comments, so if their problem is with those people in particular then wouldn't it make sense to do that instead of locking or moving threads? I'd even go as far as saying that just locking/moving would encourage that behaviour since it gives them the power to indirectly kill threads.

| >>882256
>didn't read the rules
BANNED

| >>882256 To find rules, put /rules in the web link.

For the record, that thread wasn't going anywhere. I technically could have locked it after I answered OP in the first reply. It's honorable that you tried to educate the shitposter with links to medical research, but these kinds of people aren't concerned with that- at best, they're just trolling for reactions. At worst, they've made up their own minds, and nothing short of finding out that they themselves are gay and/or trans is going to change it.

Normally I just let these threads run their course until every reply and reply to those replies are either bait, low effort, or shitposts- under the assumption that if anyone had anything they wanted to say, argue, or vent, they would have gotten it out by that time. Sometimes I'd move the especially toxic ones to /news/ because their continued existence in /u/ has a deleterious effect on other threads in the same board, and most people avoid /news/ unless they're actually looking for news or care enough to continue the rant storm. I didn't bother this time- I don't think there's anything else that could have possibly been extrapolated from OP's original question.

The rules are difficult to access on the browser, there's a button for them on the app but you can find their direct links using this as a template:

To clarify: This is a LGBT centric website, following from the game it's based on, which was also very LGBT. The vast majority of users fall somewhere on the LGBT spectrum, many of whom are trans, almost all of whom are at the very minimum bisexual or bicurious. This is part of the reason why there are so many jokes, explicit or inside, that are lgbt centric- for example, how everyone is actually a g/u/rl.

Since it's taken for granted that you're more likely to be talking with someone who is LGBT than not, there's nothing special about being LGBT here either. In the past (maybe a couple years now, i've lost count) there have been threads written either with good intentions but flawed execution, or bad faith, that have tried to discuss LGBT topics but written under the assumption that visitors were majority heterosexual/cisgendered etc. Sometimes these threads helped people. More often than not, they attracted the two or three anons who are here for the lulz. Normally they'd be ignored but, once again, either because they were new and didn't know any better, or because of bad faith actors, OP and others would take the bait, and pointless violence would ensue.

In recent years, some of these people are likely unironically anti LGBT, but just like the 50k poster they have nowhere else to go and so stick around both to post bait and because there are few places elsewhere where they can let their bigot flags fly. Except 4chan, but we've seen a few brainlets run here after being exiled from said chan. (Once again, 50k-kun being a prime example.)

TLDR:

>is it the people who spam weird shit that's the issue?

It's more the back and forth. When you respond to bait, you're helping the shitposter jack off because in their mind they've "owned the sjw libtards theythemmussys," while anyone else would have ignored them or called them a faggot and moved on. The discourse is so thoroughly poisoned that I have literally seen people who legitimately don't understand/don't know about the topics being discussed (because they are not part of the educational curriculum in their respective places of residence- this is a very international community chiefly made up of people living in Eastern Europe, South East Asia, South America, and the U.S.) who are yelled at and cast alongside "le altright chud trumposters" for asking innocent questions. (For example, a recent thread that was moved to /news/ when it became overly political, regarding Pride Month.)

At that point in the discourse, there is nothing left to do except to either respond to the people asking for actual answers with links/explanations without expecting any positive response in return, and to close the thread.

That being said, ultimately how we choose to moderate these situations is entirely up to our discretion. Our decisions are not going to sit well with everyone and I while I understand your confusion, I ask that you respect said decisions.

If you need any further clarification I will attempt to assist you when I have time. I need to return to (meatspace) work.

I'll repeat myself like how I've done again and fucking again...
I WILL take thread-baits... and I only ever respond, I don't start shit, I respond. With this I feel no guilt not even responsibility. If the thread is basically a question with edgy BS potential then that is naturally how it will evolve. Until buddy showed up with his BS I didn't even really give a fuck, my mentality is you kick a ball my way I kick it back and if you get mad too bad.

| TLDR it's only natural thread devolves into shit, then mod locks it, the end until some other shit shows up, and the world goes round and round.

| >>882270
Completely understandable, and ty for the explanation. I wasn't necessarily disagreeing with the decision, I was, as I said, just confused about the intentions of the decision.
Reason I sent the link while tagging the shitposter was because I was gonna drop it there regardless but I like talking shit lol, I know they're brick walls. I do understand how that can encourage them to continue though, so I apologize for that.

| >>882279
We are both brick walls, faggot...

| But, yeah! Thank you again for taking the time to understand. Whenever I've seen those kinda threads I've always just thought of them as opportunities for education for the few non-fags that might exist here (or cis queers in some cases), but I never thought deep enough about it to where I realised it could have a genuinely negative impact or that somebody might take the shitposting in there seriously or fuck up the board as a whole.
Now I understand, and am no more confusion.

| (taking the time to respond)

>>882283

No problem! Thank you for understanding.

<3

| >>882270 А может это ты пидор, мм?

| Hey, maid, here was a thread where anon asked a titles for his future paintings. But after few hours thread has been deleted. Why? What's happend?

| >>882287 do you autism?

| >>882270 I have nothing against LGBT, but the g/u/rl thing comes from va-11 hall-a itself, being a reference to ye olde "there are no girls on the internet". Why mention it?

| >>882327 I always interpreted it in Orange Maid's style. It has that reference, but it wouldn't be very fitting (or regular) if it was viewed purely as a joke reference.

| >>882312

I haven't deleted anything recently except for some /a/ spam and a thread from 50k asking for another get rich quick scheme.

| Its possible that the thread got caught as a false positive, or it was the same anon who posted the thread.

| >>882344
Well, just wanted to know what happened to that thread. It was innocent and it is very strange that is gone.
>>882339
In the game, it was just a joke/satire about how the internet used to be. That before there were guys on the boards, and those who pretended to be girls were either attensionwhores or trolls. The game just swapped the sex.

| >>882346
Or maybe it was spammed with bad stuff. It is strange that I can't find it in archive. Well, it's not so important, I just wanted to know if OP liked my "titles" for his paintings.

| >>882347 >>882348

Ugh, still, my bad.

| >>d848f1
Yeah, that thread dissapearing was weird. It never got spammed or had any bad stuff. It was just some g/u/rl wanting titles for painting ideas.
But it seems like maid didn't mean it.

| >>882354 the threads that show up on /d/ about art are all from one person who only comes here to ask for help being a successful artist. I don't think they even read the other threads? for a long time they would post their questions to every board at the same time. that lead to a lot of g/u/rls asking for those threads to be deleted.

| >>882354 the thing is, it always starts asking some innocent-looking question, but ends up lashing at everyone that joins the thread, and doesn't even say thanks to the people that give objectively good tips and pointers.
That's the reason nobody takes them seriously

Btw, I don't want to pass the chance to say that, orange maid, you are the best!
