Why do people blindly believe mfs who use big words for everything? I see mfs both irl and online calling people like Jordan Peterson and shit super intelligent and amazing speakers when the only difference between them and anyone else is that those people just use big words (often ones that are irrelevant). Like, it can't just be me who thinks it's weird that public speakers who just say absolutely nothing or something completely wrong (but in a fancy way) get praised for it.

Why is that? Do people just genuinely think "I've never heard that word before so they must be smart"? Is it a confirmation biased type thing where they just hear what they wanna hear and call it smart cause of that? It genuinely confuses me. I've seen do many speeches by people that are just completely hollow or where a 2 minute Google search collapses their whole argument, but people just eat that shit up.

I can't listen to Peterson. Part of it is because he uses big words and talks fast so it's sometimes hard for me to follow. But also he's got this pretensious vibe that I can't stand. My bullshit-o-meter goes off the rails.

I know it's tone death to recommend an essay from a guy that gets appropriated to give an aura of intelligence. But OP, you should totally read George Orwell's "Politics and the English language" It's 9 pages, and I think it's on the easier side in terms of how academic writing can be.If it's still feeling a little rough to parse. There's you-tube vid that I think does a good job of summing it up: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=whPnobbck9s >>879644

>>879712 Nah, it's fine lol. It's kinda funny, but this is 100% relevant to the topic and I fuck with Orwell heavy. Sucks that people exactly like who Orwell hated misuse his name so much. Pretty sure he'd strangle Peterson and Shapiro and all them given the chance.
