I've been on this website for long enough that I talk like a g/u/rl everywhere else on the internet. but it turns out not a lot of people like that... it seems I'm more likely to make people uncomfortable than I am to fit in. it's lonely out there, g/u/rls...

>>857962 I don't really know specifically. part of it is what you're allowed to say, which is pretty lenient on an anonymous textboard. also there are replies that make sense to make on a thread that will just get lost or ignored in a fast discord chat. also also when you are functionally a different person in each thread, it makes sense to talk differently for different threads, but that doesn't work for talking differently about different subjects when your character is...

continuous.
but mostly I would say that I've gotten used to this place where there's no point to get mad at people for what they say, and usually not much of a reason. it makes more sense when someone says something weird here to affirm it and say what you like about it but when I do that other places it eventually builds up an image of being an immoral douchebag with no sense of what's socially acceptable.

I think I get it now, thanks. Although now I wonder if it's possible, I always type in the same way so if you do find me, point me out... somehow

>>857973 no problem. I'm sure there is some other anonymous person subsumed into the mass I call g/u/rl that can understand it perfectly in your stead.

>>857960 I started refering to other posters as girl, girlfriend etc on 4chan and so far no one has commented on it, even on boards like /v/ and /tv/.
In other communities I've been refering to people as darling, honey, sweetie etc. Not that we do that here but this place definetly got me influenced. I expected more backlash but so far I've had none. People seem to respond positively to it.

I would say it's probably due to older posters staying on the app no? Like you've seen everything under the sun so treating dumb shit with an element of play is the motive, and it's not like there's an influx of new peeps.
And the gendered terms probably help set the tone, as ladies tend to be a bit more affirming. Not to mention there would probably be a bunch of toxic people who think it's gay to refer to yourself as g/u/rl.

this is the biggest part of it I think. the way I treat other people here comes off as affirming and cameraderous(?) but in other places that same attitude is creepy and predatory, and I think the difference is that it feels like you're talking to one female who can't DM you or single you out on danger/u/ instead of to a crowd of men who could be creepy harassers.

that makes it hard to compliment people when they say something weird, which is a mode of conversation I have gotten incredibly, incredibly used to after 5 years here. or even just to compliment people in general.
but maybe looking for open minded, low guarded people on public internet spaces was a fucking stutid idea to start with now that I think about it.
>>858154 I'm going to try this this week. do you use a female voice in comms? or do you think it would work for anybody?

Sounds like you just have to stick to the terms those boards use for commradery. Not everyone can be based and jill pilled.

>>858298 yeah. I think it's a lot easier to pick up an imageboard's culture than a discord server's culture as well (discord servers being the original inspiration for this thread). maybe I just need to lurk more, or find places that are more jill pilled already.

I legit said mating press in a conversation with my best friend and he said bro what the fuck.
Worst part is that I said it as a reflex rather than a conscious effort to make a joke. I got to show him the Pomu thread though, which was fun.
