And to the degree we still widely maintain gender norms there will always be a certain amount. I wouldn't be surprised if it normalised after a point just like the gays.

Just as some people were only gay, or punk, or hippies, or "insert social movement here", there will always be a subset of young adults who join something specifically to go against the greater flow.
