social media is great. I love video ads! I love influencer product placements! I love seeing random boomer getting angry at brand. everything is amazing

Social media isn't very fun indeed. Specially if you only view politics and drama.
But I prefer to follow art-related and fantasy-related accounts/users/subreddits and I enjoy that

Been on Twitter for approximately that long too and it's been good so far. Met lots of good friends.
I don't know why people are finding it "unbearable". Don't use the Home timeline. Don't follow every rando you find, make judicious use of those Unfollow, Block, Mute, and "See less often" button.
I miss the good old days of message boards and smaller communities, but this is what we got, so we work with it.

I don't get making friends on social at all. I use social because my friends are there, not the other way around. What even prompt people to post things for complete strangers? This website is different because it's like a public forum. On twitter without followers you're casting a fishing line onto the void

It's okay, use it to skim art or random memes. Used it heavily way back, now it's just sorta there for me, if I even want to use it.

I have to use twitter for my vtuber career now. I hated it a few years ago when i first made an account, but it seems a lot less aggressive now at pushing sponsored tweets and other bullshit.
Some cancerous people still exist, but they're easily ignored.

>>851428 lurking is a bit different I feel. I can browse art at booru sites. yes, it doesn't support the artist. yes, I don't give a dinar about it. the artist can go eat my shrimpy bits.

>>851391 It is casting fishing line into the void but sometimes you got fish.
I don't remember how I got friends there either. We replied to the same popular tweet, got a lil discussion, one of us looked at the other's profile, went "sure why not, I'll follow and see what else you're up to", and then we started liking each other's tweet and replying to each other and all of a sudden we don't find it weird to barge into each other's DM.

>>851581 well fuck. good for you. last time I accepted a twitter DM they are an unhinged psycho. my fault though for being desperate for strange encounters. I couldn't talk about it for a year but looking back it was absolutely retarded.

My socials are obscure internet forums and anonymous forums like this one. I'm living a happy life.

I was going to say that it's okay as long as it's in moderation. But that's coming from someone who barely use socials. I wouldn't have social media if i didn't need it for work

mostly boring unless you single down what you view to very specific, fun things.

When it comes down to it, what really counts as social media is a blur.
At first it was myspace, then facebook was the myspace clone. Then twitter is the facebook without real names, etc.
But nowadays it doesn't matter because every successful platforms copy each other. They all have "the Algorithm" and my opinion is basically if any web 2.0 platform doesn't have that "you might also like" shit then it's decent.

Social media can be useful and fun but generally it's cancer.
