About three months ago I have entirely removed Discord out of my life. I managed to get at least some of my contacts to keep in touch with me on other platforms like Telegram or Matrix. And here I think I am ready to give my thoughts... I have no dramas. Discord always had and will have drama hungry people. Ditching it completely erased that aspect from my life. I don't see freaks anymore and by that I mean the ones that are even worse from the /d/.

My device is even more grateful for doing so as its battery life has increased significantly. It wasn't an easy choice as Discord has monopoly of social media for young people but I think I made the right call. Not everyone I was in contact still wants to keep it but in a way this proves that Discord matters everything to them and they're just ill and addicted. Poor things... Discord had this one advantage though - meeting new people. Though other media also provides that.

Btw I didn't delete my account because this is pointless. People may wanna find archived messages or something related to me - let them have it. Deleting doesn't do anything besides removing your avatar, changing your nickname and removing access for it from you. This is probably heavily against GDPR or whatever that EU privacy law is called. I wonder if it'll be possible to sue them for that... Well that's it from me. I was actually pretty active there as my account was from 2017

>>842362 my account got false report and that convinced me because I essentially got locked out of everything I had. I knew already that Discord was awful in terms of their staff, but one report? Hoho

I know you're referring to Discord's function as a social media application. But I feel a different kind of scared regarding my own use of it.
It's mostly just an instant messenger I use to keep up with friends and to hang out in larger gaming circles. But I've nearly grown up on this platform. And only after all this time I learn that it's not E2E encrypted. And I learn further more that discord does not care about user privacy.

I want to move, and I think I'm going to soon. I just can't make that leap in the dark without understanding the benefits and what it'll do to me. It is essentially a program that facilitates my social life after all.

I mostly just use it to follow progress on indie porn games and a few AI projects. Discord isn't a social site for me, more of an info repository. I'd prefer to use wikis and RSS.

Discord is currently part of every friendship I have. If I got rid of it completely, I'd probably end up only talking to my family members through SMS and one other person through Telegram.
But on the other hand I am FUCKING BORED. Now every server I use is stagnant, and I just DM people from it, or another social media content feed. So I'm thinking often about either finding new places on Discord to use, or going somewhere else entirely.
sounds like how i felt about facebook before i quit that for good a few years ago.
i generally just make new "identities" every few years and bring over the few friends i kept from the previous one onto the new one. all or most communities will invariably bloat with too many people and contrasting opinions, leading to conflict, necessitating a change of scenery. The platform has little do with it.
Though facebook had this concept that you're supposed to friend everyone who's even remotely related to you, annnnnd yeah. Bad idea in practice.
