Nobody is using it in the right way anymore. The persons i have to work with everyday keep making repetitive, offenssive, almost automatic shitty jokes. Humour isn't only based around mocking people who are or had having a hard time. Every, single, day. "Haha Hitler" "Haha they said the word black" "haha fat people funny" It's sickening to see people talk like that, and think that since they're only between themselves it's alright to spit this crap.

One day i even asked them, why they were making all these ableist, homophibic, racists jokes, they just answered "We don't want to think about the bad stuff in the world so we joke about it." As if, the best thing to do when the world sucks was to laugh it of, even if it could hurt someone, instead of like, taking it seriously, take responsability and act following your moral way of thinking

>>829415 100% agree. Dark humor can be really funny to me, but dark humor isn't kist saying offensive shit and passing it off as a joke, there has to be more layers
A good example of dark humor done right is the new show smiling friends. episode 1 is about 2 guys helping someone who wants to kill himself, but the characters and delivery carry the jokes. Theu don't show a guy about to kill himself and call that a joke, it goes beyond, & when youre laughing, its not really offensive

>>829419 it really makes me sad that shitty people have turned dark humor from s transgressive but still Ultimately harmless and funny form of comedy, into nothing but dog whistles and a smokescreen of plausible deniability for their actual shitty beliefs.
Also, bad comedians usually make dark jokes about others, better ones will often times make dark or transgressive jokes about themselves. This isnt a hard and fast rule but it's definitely a trend i see

Smiling friends is a good show, even if some jokes are really bad to me (i mean someone from oneyplays gang is behind it so i'm not surprised theres some crude and childish dark humour [wich is great most of the time]) i have to watch the venture bros, it's pretty nice apparently.

Your coworkers sound like shitty people. I wish them a very cursed day.
I don't really have people who joke that way around me, thankfully, and the one friend who does dark humours, he does it sparingly enough and never at the expense of others.

My dad died when we couldn’t remember his blood type. As he died, he kept insisting for us to “be positive,” but it’s hard without him.

I mean... daniel tosh has a great bit on this. Anything can be funny if the joke's well written. But repetition makes jokes stale.
Jimmy Carr's another great dark/offensive humor comedian. The jokes don't have to be self-deprecating to be funny.
The whole concept that 'only black people can tell black jokes' etc. is a logical fallacy unless you don't consider people equal.

Real shit. I love dark humour, but the shit people nowadays try to claim is "dark humour" just isn't. My best friend described it best "Dark humour is to make jokes about the more serious and fucked up things in your personal life to cope and stay positive. Dark humour is not to be a bigot." So, for example, he'll make rape jokes that are actually funny and well constructed. Almost both insightful and funny, because he's been through that. I'll make jokes about hating on LGBTQ+...

It's kinda the same with absurd humour. The cool thing about it is that it should have logic behind it - just broken and crooked. But many people say some random ridiculous stuff with no logic whatsoever, just a shock factor, and try to pass it as absurd humour.

P.S. random =/= absurd

stuff that are well done and the point of the joke usually is how dumb it is to hate on it, because I'm often treated like shit by homophobes and transphobes. Dark humour is essentially to break down shit you're going through in a way that makes people laugh. But some cishet guy saying "ahaha faggots am I right?" or someone who's never been through sexual assault making light of it, that's fucking weird. It's never funny and jist perpetuates stereotypes and down plays struggles.

>>829456 But that's the thing. You don't have to be raped/be a rapist to make a joke about it. Part of the reason people find dark humor funny is because it's about something society knows is wrong without needing experience it first hand.
For instance: What's the difference between a Lamborghini and a pile of dead babies? I don't have a Lamborghini in my garage that I fuck every night.
That's a basic, absurd joke that's literally older than the internet. And yet it cracks me up

A better constructed joke and a key point: separate reality from jokes.

>>829462>>829463 None of that was funny though. There was no substance. There was no depth to it. It was just "Haha I said bad word, I said bad thing, so quirky and funny". Maybe it's because I'm not a sheltered 15 year old, but that joke of yours and nothing in that vid was funny. Like, there's no comedic value because all of it is just the same shit repeated. There's nothing in it that makes you think. There's just, like, I don't see how that's supposed to be funny.
Post number #829466, ID: 533d60

>>829462 And for that first part, "you don't have to be raped to make a rape joke". No. You can try to make one without having been through that. But I've never seen someone who hasn't make a rape joke that's actually funny. Why? Because their "jokes" are just "ahaha rape funny" or "wow imagine rape am I right?" and, liie, there's just no nuance. I've even seen a lot of people who do those kinds "jokes" straight up victim blame victims of rape in those "jokes" unironically.

If you think offensive shit for no other reason than to be offensive on repeat like a broken record is funny, good for you I guess. But letting comedians get away with lazy, no thought, offensive "jokes" with no education or knowledge or experience on what they're talking about, that doesn't sit right with me. Because it stopped being funny ages ago, and a lot of those "jokes" contribute not to "coping with the world" but to normalise hateful shit. Like, genuinely.

>>533d60 And that's why I only make dark jokes with people I'm close with, to avoid random people getting mad and calling me names

Dark humor's been a dead horse for years honestly. It's rarely done well, and is mostly used as a really bad veil for bad takes and worse opinions.

>>829467 look, comedy doesn't have to be nuanced. Everything in the world doesn't need to have some deep philosophical meaning or thought exercise involved.
It's okay to just sit back and enjoy things sometimes.
I can tell you for a fact that after one of my harder shifts rearranging machines, when I've moved something in excess of 3,400 kgs of steel & wood by hand cart, I have no interest in watching something I'll need to analyze.

>>829513 I'm not saying it needs to be deep. Just not bigotry with a laugh track. If you need it to be offensive to laugh, like, idk what to tell you. Might wanna do some reflection.

>>829518 Don't need it to be. Just don't need it not to be either. I'll also laugh at a bad pun.

It doesn't make you a bad person to laugh at jokes.

I get what you mean, OP. Bigots and conservatists in general tend to have distinctly dry personalities. Their sense of humor basically follows the formula of 'say racist/offensive thing' before laughing at their own joke. It's just so... dry.
There's a reason why conservative stand up comedians are suitably scarce, and bigoted ones nonexistent.

when you're making fun of other people you can just set up a straw man with whatever characteristics you like and call it subhuman and worthy of death and whatever. if you do that for yourself people tell you to see a therapist. a joke's never going to be funny if you don't respect the person you're joking about. people like to get around this by insisting that since they have a lot of friends who aren't the butt of the joke and can thus laugh at this garbage that it MUST be funny

since everybody's laughing! and you can just shout down the people who feel disrespected by that because you have the majority and they can't do shit. that's really just a social power trip isn't it. it's just easier to joke about yourself.

>>829568 Honestly kinda true though. Punch up, laugh at yourself or just, you know, non-offensive stuff (because some people don't seem to realise that you don't actually need to say slurs or make fun of marginalised groups to be funny). It's when you're punching down and making fun of people who're worse off that it gets just, lazy. Like, it's just the lowest of the low hanging fruit and is usually just some shit you see on a hate group's Twitter account reused.

>>829504 I do have a set of moral beliefs. It is just different from yours. In my opinion, decrease of negative human emotions should not be the focus of humanity. Happiness, sadness, and anxiety are just a product of evolution.
It doesn't matter that some jokes provoke an increase of cortisol levels for a 5-10% of the population.
We don't even mine rocks in space. Yet, here we are, focusing on the fact that some people find the word "nigger" funny.
It is boring.
