Resources for new writer

| I've been considering getting into writing short stories, but it's been a minute since I got out of school, and I was never the greatest writer anyway. Is there a good place for a g/u/rl to start? Anywhere with tips, prompts, other resources, etc. would be helpful; as well as a good place to share/trade stories when I get to that point.

| Get absolutely obsessed with one character/one group of character and then just write anything about them. This is the best motivation fuel.

| Some good sites are the world building and writing sections from stackechange. I'm not a writer myself, but I sometimes check it's questions and answers out of curiosity.

| Since I miswrote the name, thi is the link: https://worldbuilding.stackexchange.com/

| As someone who's written a fair bit and gotten published a few times, honestly, the only way you'll really get better at writing is by sitting down and writing. You don't need resources. That said, reading a lot of fiction helps, and having some fellow writers to bounce ideas off of and proofread for you helps too.

Thanks for the response!
I know practice is the most important thing, but I've written a couple things and, I'm unable to assess my own work accurately. I've had a couple people read my stories, but the feedback has been mostly generic and unhelpful.

Feel free to post it here for cool new generic and unhelpful feedback.

As >>815884 says, please feel free to post your work here. I'll at least try and give you something helpful.

I'm flattered, but I don't think I'm mentally ready to right now. I might be back, though, with something I'm confident sharing ;)

Is there a good 'writing community' or something similar, so I can connect with other writers? Outside fandom-specific slash fiction, I'm not sure where to look.

I'd highly recommend local real life groups. Any decent sized town or city probably has several, and they're much less likely than internet groups to be populated by insane people.

| >>b78238 i dunno OP I'd consider posting here. It's anonymous so not tied to an account and you can pretend your someone else later if it's cringe. We have no long term memory.

I'd give it a read ;)

This^

And if you're still hesistant then I can post my shitty writing first. You'll look half-decent in comparison, I promise.

the only writing I have right now
*is* tied to my personal account, besides that is just digital journal entries. When I write something, probably soon since I have the next couple days off, I'll be sure to put it on /u/.

>>815938 if you'd like to, sure!

| If you want to post longish writing I highly recommend using https://write.as ! Just paste your writing there then paste the link here.

Looking forward to your work, op!

| Start by using a random word generator. Then write a sentence using that word.
