From personal experience I think differences attract, for sure. Like, my best friend is very different from me in a lot of ways but we still have common interests, views, values, etc.
Basically, the best friends and the people I find the most interesting are one's that have a similar "core" to me so to speak, but are still very different in a lot of other ways.
I'm not romantically active. Don't feel much romantic attraction. But I do think same would apply to that.
