Is there a point in buying a cheap (under $100) used camera?

Or would I be better off just getting a new phone?

a camera would be great, you have so many more options for configuration. if you are really serious about photography or film making try finding a cheap DSLR, if not a simple camcorder or digital camera will do fine

>>764990 I guess I'm still trying to figure out if I'm into photography or not. I'd prefer mirrorless to DSLR though, but unfortunately the budget kinda pushes me towards a compact. Currently eyeing up a used Canon PowerShot G9, sure it's old and only 12.1 megapixels, but the 1/1.7" matrix size seems worth it. Hopefully it's in a good enough condition.
