| The encounters and disagreements between different macropolitical or cosmopolitical agendas mark a constant throughout modernity. It’s not just the reproval of the traditionalists and Gaians that tunes the constant criticism of modernity, but in another register, this “approximation” between different worldviews can also present itself as aligned on a similar axis.


| Silvia Federici, for one, in Caliban and the Witch presents a critique of both modernity and capitalism and considers these two processes as reactionary, not composed by an understanding of “progress”. Federici has certain intentions with this project, one being to relate the genesis and history of capitalism through a feminist, bodily and Marxist perspective.


| The book’s title being inspired by The Tempest by Shakespeare, she focuses on Caliban as the Caribbean and anti-colonial rebel, and the witch embodies a synthesis of the women who were protagonists of persecution and massacres at the end of the Middle Ages.
