Nah, you're wrong. Neither J-pop nor K-pop was as popular in Europe as in North America or east asia.
And internationally acclaimed K-pop is likely not a fad. The reason it's gaining momentum is because K-pop groups are actively encouraged to embrace the English language. It's all business and the execs will try to keep the momentum up as long as they're making bank. Squid Game and other popular shows and movies probably aided its acclaim too.
