Sakura-con is kicking off another great convention season! I'll be attending many major North American conventions this year, including some I have never been to! ( ^.^) Do you attend any conventions of the anime, gaming, or other varieties? Which ones are worth going to?

You guys have some great cons.. Well locally there are some gaming cons I go and cosplay. The quality of people is low on the dominant side. Like the cons themes are just Riot games, Genshin and some unfun games.
I like the indie corners, there are some great people. Sometimes you can see great cosplays too other than "popular anime", "popular game".

Idk I felt kinda lonely when I went to one. One of the talks was really good and emotional but idk I was a face in a crowd. I liked playing on the ddr type machine though that was fun!!

>>1052307 what were you expecting though? that everyone would drop what they came for only to hang out with some silent weirdo? you need to learn to touch grass.

>>1052323 yeah, that's why I think it's more of a systemic problems with cons which is why I brought it up, because they won't. And that IS touching grass isn't it?

Well, what do you think about them? I gave my view.

>>1052401 I just don't think it's true that it's the cons fault that you feel lonely in a crowd, like wtf? It may not be easy for everyone to make connections with people or talk to strangers but you can't blame the cons for that.

>>1052307 g/u/rl, cons are like the least lonely experience! You're in there with your community! You like Lain? Go to a Lain panel. They're *wild.* Strike up a conversation with your fellow attendees! You all share a common interest, so it's really easy to get talking about whatever.
"You interested in any seasonals? Nice Miku cosplay - what are your favourite producers? That's a cute Haruhi pin - did you watch every episode of Endless Eight, or skip through them?"

If you have a difficult time talking to people, start small and build up from there. It can be really helpful to give yourself an excuse to talk to someone. Bring some can badges or stickers of popular characters you like, and give them out to cosplayers. I always have a stash of Vocaloid can badges in my bag! Or if you attend the DJ sets/music guests, bring some extra glowsticks to hand to the people next to you.

Suddenly, you go from having no reason to reach out, to having an objective for a conversation. "I gotta give this Miku her pin." It gives you an excuse, an objective, and steers the conversation.
The first few might be awkward, but soon you'll get into a rhythm. And maybe you'll even find a couple con buddies you gel with!
You're surrounded by cool, like-minded shut-ins at a convention. There's no need to be lonely! I hope to chat with you on the convention floor soon g/u/rl!!
