I suffered in army (i didn't want to do that)
I left everything behind me, army, family, career, to study hard computer science and japanese, working for a company as a cybersecurity analyst alongside my studies. I got my N5 recently, going for the N4 and N3 this year.
And it pisses me off to hear the same shitty arguments :
- uhh you will never be japanese you know ?
I don't fcking care you understand ? Luckily I will never be japanese im ok with being french

You know what ? That's how life works, you have to work hard to achieve your goals. What a loser mentality

- And what about the healthcare system ?
Man, France isn't the only country where people can get healthcare.
Literally : "The Japanese social security system covers salaried workers against risks such as illness, old age, survivors, disability, work accidents, occupational diseases, and unemployment, and also provides family benefits."

- You could earn more in France or in the USA
Dude, first of all I choose IT because it's the field that pay the most in Japan with engineering and law. And I choose CYBERSECURITY because it pays even better than previously mentionned fields. Then, I don't move in Japan for the paycheck, I move for the quality of public service, the culture, the security...

Literally me and my pal, we're french suffering here. Though I have N2, so I'm finally starting to feel the opportunities. The problem is that VIE contracts are mostly managing or support. Japanese contracts wants N2-N1 minimum but they want you to be as fluent as a native.

And yeah everyone is criticizing Japan, through their occidental eyes, claiming it's not paradise, as if the problems they bring up don't exist in France.
Truth is I studied there a few months, years ago, and I've never been as happy I was back there.

Also I don't understand americans going to Paris but they're probably more French than me in their soul.

>>1040024 They're worried about HEALTHCARE?? You're going to JAPAN and they're worried about the HEALTHCARE there??? What kind of utopia do you Europeans live in that JAPANESE HEALTHCARE isn't good enough???

Healthcare is a joke in France because prices are higher and it's always only 10%, you still need an inssurance, thou your company have to propose some offer direclty taken from your salary bill.
Yes hospital is free thou if you have an emergency, but be ready to wait suffering for 2 days or more alone in a room, for something that would take 20 minutes in the usa.
But anyway people like us considering changing country have good degrees and salaries so it's not a problem anyway.

>>1fefb5 OP here, glad you studied there! I did a full remote internship in Osaka and it was the best work conditions I could get. In France I would stay at home all day because I hate the city but in Osaka, I was moving in all their Starbucks, Tully's, Excelsior, Doutor etc, working on clean tables with a drink, calm atmosphere, just people being civilized and everyone were working/studying. A simple thing like that is just impossible to do in France.

In France your table looks like the ゴミ箱 and all the single moms are bringing their kids screaming everywhere. And I still haven't talked about 黒人

About your plans, you shouldn't have to care by ideas you won't be real Japanese etc or language but care about 2 main questions:
1. Are you ok to leave your previous life somewhere else? Are there some big cons or people who would you miss?
2. Japan is famous by not well made work culture with phenomens as karoshi
About me I don't know well details i never was in Japan but i feel sympathy for your idea

>>ebe0db yeah, here in France I don't want to go outside and live like a hikkikomori with a job. While in Japan I always went outside.
The "you will never be japanese you know ?" is so stupid. In France I don't even feel french, maybe because I'm half latino but mostly I don't like the lifestyle. Being foreigner in Japans actually gives you advantages.

"people who would you miss?" having a degree in France, except if you're lucky and/or want to stay in that shithole named Paris. You're most likely going to go to another region, and feel as isolated as if you were in another country.

I don't know yet about work culture, but it seems to me exagerated. Sure some things are wild from our perspective.
But like, at least it's recognized over there. Suicide rate is worse in usa, and France is slightly behind.
News about Japan talks about the 4 days week and giving better access to housing. Sure maybe it's not going to be real, but it still baffles me as it's a country without housing crisis contrary to France and usa, and the 4 days weeks is our old distant dream.
