Would it better for society if we returned to more smaller communities online? Seems putting the entire world onto mega platforms has been a negative leading to misinformation bombs, hyper partisan politics blowing up, doomscrooling and anger addiction and giving awful tech ceos way too much power.
Plus moderatation on sites where the membership is everyone on earth is a logistics nightmare.

Plus we could bring back exclusive spaces for kids again so the adults can chill in peace

Remember we used to have club penguin, the cbbc sites, cartoon network and exclusive games and mmos for children.

>>993145 yup centralization is wrong, let's cut all under ocean cables, cut our lan cables, disconnect our modems, and leave 5g, let's connect to our local network, and chat with rest of household over ftp

I change mind ftp is wrong too, let's write our own internet protocol

And don't use peogramming languages, please use binary code and write your own-made assembler and os please. Don't use mainstream os as windows, mac, linux or solaris. Only your own made os and own language can bring you enough privacy

Let's just cut all the cables going in and out of Russia so we'll get rid of these lame threads once and for all

It's not saying abandon tech just to build a better Internet that doesn't involve being packed into the silicon Valley roach motels. They've gaslit us into believing the Internet is nothing more than a digital shopping mall with only five websites.
If anything that's smaller than the true vastness of the Web.

This used to be the dominant form with places like geocities no?
I like the kitch personalized nature of them but it's asking people to watch number go down which not enough people are mature enough to do atm. The concept of government coming and breaking up internet monopolieas after a certain point is cool tho.
I recommend you play hypnospace outlaw, it's a neat throwback to these niche communities.
But if discord groups are any marker for smaller comun reggin themselves, eh..

Neocities is pretty good, forums, boards, experimental stuff. I'm under no delusion everyone on earth is gonna do those things but more people that make personal spaces online is still a net good. We don't need to go backwards but take best of old and new in a dialectical sense of synthesis.
