War in Ukraine Brings Explosions at Europe's Largest Nuclear Plant

| On Friday, explosions rang out at Zaporizhzhia nuclear power complex, the biggest of its kind in Europe.

Moscow and Kyiv have accused each other of shelling the plant, which was taken over by Russian forces in early March, along with the town of Enerhodar, where the complex is located.

| "Three hits were recorded directly at the site of the station," the Ukrainian state-run nuclear power agency said, claiming that one was "near one of the power units where the nuclear reactor is located...."

On Saturday that the plant was operational and Ukrainian staff at the station continued to work to ensure radiation safety. Ukrainian prosecutors have opened an investigation into the incident.

| Russian troops forced the plants Ukrainian managers to work "at gunpoint" after seizing the plant on March 5.

Several Western and Ukrainian officials believe that Russia is now using the giant nuclear facility as a fortress to protect their troops and stage attacks, because they assume Kyiv will not retaliate and risk a crisis. The Russians have put ammunition, fuel, and vehicles inside buildings within the complex to prevent Ukraine from shelling them.

| Meanwhile, Russia is shelling Ukrainian positions and towns from inside the plant knowing it's unlikely Ukraine will fire back.

| There is now confirmed intelligence showing Russian troops have mined the nuclear plant [ https://twitter.com/Flash43191300/status/1556001282330173440?cxt=HHwWgIC99YK7g5grAAAA ]. Not only have they mined the plant, they've been shelling power lines and other infrastructure so as to cut off the southern portion of Ukraine from the power grid.

| This goes along with them mining vital infrastructure [ https://twitter.com/WarMonitor3/status/1555972416068849665?cxt=HHwWgsC4weSq9pcrAAAA ] (electricity, gas lines, water, etc) in Kherson and surrounding areas to do a scorched earth policy when they are pushed out.

So not surprising they would be sheling the nuclear plant. Their entire goal is genocide and what better way than to have a large nuclear plant blow up after they leave to kill people and make things uninhabitable.

| Here's a video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5WXiEP93wtA from March 3rd when Russian troops seized the plant showing them firing into buildings and causing a fire to break out, and here's further analysis https://www.npr.org/2022/03/11/1085427380/ukraine-nuclear-power-plant-zaporizhzhia of a longer, 4 hour video in which Russian troops fired heavy weapons onto the site, narrowly missing one of the reactors but also causing further damage than was initially reported.

| All the while refusing Ukrainian firefighters from entering the complex to entinguish the fires.

Meanwhile, the first story on this page https://www.cnn.com/europe/live-news/ukraine-russia-pitler-news-03-04-22/h_21f91066e1289e7a4c2026a1bdb158a8 is more video evidence of the Russian takeover wherein Ukrainian operators are telling the Russians to stop firing on the buildings or they risk a nuclear catastrophe.

| And to pile on some more, this picture from two days ago https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-62432873 shows a covered Russian tank just outside the fence of the facility.

So yeah, it's easy to know who to put your money on in this situation.

| Wait a sec, I didn't got it.
Russian put their troops, vehicles and ammunition in the ZAES and then they bombed it? It's illogical.

| >>887431 maids deleted the thread that said ukraine shelled the plant, so clearly russians put artillery across the river and shelled themselves

| >>887455
Right, those russians are so evil that they will bomb everybody.
But wait a sec, they bombed evil guys, right? So tecnically they are good guys, since they are fighting against evil, am I right?

| @maid did you really delete that thread and why

There were several complaints in the thread stating that the thread title didn't match the contents of the actual article. I read through the article myself to see what they meant- to begin with, the news article's headline didn't initially cast blame on Ukraine or Russia for attacking the nuclear power plant, stating instead: "Attack on Ukraine nuclear plant ‘suicidal’, says UN chief as he urges access to site". The article then goes on to say that both countries were accusing each other of attacking the power plant, and that the UN chief Guterres, "said the International Atomic Energy Agency needed access to the plant. “We fully support the IAEA in all their efforts in relation to create the conditions of stabilisation of the plant,”"

The article *then* explains that according to Ukraine, "renewed Russian shelling on Saturday had damaged three radiation sensors and hurt a worker at the Zaporizhzhia power plant, the second hit in consecutive days on the site."

When terrorism in any form is first mentioned, it's in the context of President Zelenskiy "[accusing] Russia of waging “nuclear terror” that warranted more international sanctions, this time on Moscow’s nuclear sector."

There is no mention in the article at all of the Russians calling the Ukrainians "terrorists," or engaging in "terrorism," which is what the original thread title stated. Instead, it states: "Russian-installed authorities in the area said Ukrainian forces hit the site with a multiple rocket launcher, damaging administrative buildings and an area near a storage facility. The Russian embassy in Washington also released a statement itemising the damage."

| >>887762 thanks for the reply. That shut them up for a bit.

I like the neutral tone of these articles so far, but I cannot fathom that Ukraine would shell their own power plant when it is so integral to their grid. A nation wide blackout for a bit of international sympathy? I don't understand why Russia didn't just shut down the plant either. But then again, I got this Ruski friend who's frustrated why Ukrainian infrastructure isn't turned to cinders and embers yet.

Nuclear powerplants are a major military objective in any war, this one being no exception. Anyone who holds it will defend it by stationing units there, anyone who wants it will want to destroy said units. This applies to both sides.
They haven't destroyed the plant because they prefer if the country wasn't in ruins by the end. Russia's objective is still the annexation of Ukraine. Their aims are as delusional as they were at Day 1.

>didn't just shut down the plant either
Well, it's not so simple like turn off the lights. And it would be a big problem because a lot of towns on both sides using that energy.

| Where did all the russian trolls go? How come they yeet the fuck out faster than a speeding bullet everytime someone proves them wrong?

| >>888273 makes as much sense debating you as it makes sense to "debate" an anti-vaxer
russians shell themselves, there is no lead contamination in the oder, the west is infailible, sieg heil
