1994 Ukrainian nuclear weapons deal

| As part of their surrender of their nuclear stockpiles, Ukraine, Belarus, and Kazakhstan were promised protection from invasion/security of their independence. By Russia, the UK, and the US.

We've already seen what the Russian promise is worth.

Do you g/u/rls think the other two nations should hold to the deal?

| Belarus and Kazahstan should gang up with Ukraine and beat the shit out of Russia.
That'll make'em learn.

Belarus is allied with Russia.

Also look into the Revolution of Dignity in Ukraine, the subsequent Crimean referendum, etc. This isn't about "invading Ukraine" its just morenpist cold war stupiditt

| >>827890 Belarus became really awful after 1994 so no. Also it may invade Ukraine instead of Russia (but Belarusan army will use Russian troops lol)

| I feel we really let Ukraine down.

How? We dont owe them anything and they voted to never join NATO. This isnt anyones tight except for Ukraine/its possible European allies and Russia. I honestly get why Germany is balking at ramping up support, they dont want another massive war on their doorstep

This, the problem isn't the war itself but the refugee crisis that would inevitably ensue

Poland is already flipping its shit at 10 migrants crossing the border a day. If they had a thousand Ukrainians fleeing combat zones crossing over they'd probably turn Auschwitz back into a death camp

| There are so many little things that really make what russia is doing look like theatre so that they can negotiate from a better position.

But it does look like they'll want some concessions to save face. Not sure how the sit down with turkey will fair.

I mean... this whole conflict with Russia started because Ukraine was trying to get closer ties to NATO. It's easy to say "oh they didn't immediately join" but doing so ignores the reality of the situation.
