I've been talking with this guy from Montana. Recently we've stumbled upon holidays - he said most of them are consumerist garbage now, I asked him if there are any that *aren't* consumerist garbage. Thanksgiving, he said. Neat concept, he added. He backtracked quite quickly when I asked him how celebrating genocide is a neat concept, but can you imagine? Turns out he watches TV, too, and enjoys doing so. Are they just braindead over there?

Imagine trying to make others feel guilty about a genocide that happened many years ago. They are probably just celebrating the good aspects of the holiday, not the bad traits. Are you just braindead over there?
(I'm not even American, but "genocide guilt" drives me nuts, it's bulshit. No one is guilty of their ancestors's wrongdoings.)

>>801680 Your whinging and handwringing won't change the fact the wealth of every single WASP was built on the corpses of people belonging to the vast categories of people that they find every bit as inferior as they found them 200 years ago, buddy. And genocide doesn't simply get less terrible with time. Sure, it's harder to sympathize with the Celts of Roman London, but were they lesser human beings by any chance?

I mean, OP is just correct. If you're incapable of understanding the very simple concept of generational wealth and power, don't try to speak on it. Like, I'm not American, but I'm benefitting from the genocide of our native people due to how all that shit works. Did I kill anyone? No. Am I racist? No. But that doesn't mean I don't benefit from those things having happened. Celebrating shit like that is retarded. Especially when those people are still suffering heavily from it.

And, like, nobody is saying that you directly are guilty of murder or some shit. But, well, capitalism is oppressive. It's a hierarchy where the ones with the most resources are on top and stay having those resources over generations. So what happens when your ancestors committed genocide on a people making them a minority and took their resources? Well, now you have more because of that, and they have less because of that. Even to this day. Is that something to celebrate?

>>3578d3 Hello OP! Nice samefagging going on.
tl;dr American's aren't celebrating the genocide. They're celebrating family time. Stop pretending like you care about the native Americans, we know you don't. You just want to make Americans look/feel bad and you're not even subtle. 2/10 because you actually got me to respond to your braindead bait.

>>801679 I mean... that's not the point of it though. It's a fucking harvest festival. Same style one that's practiced world over in the fall.
The whole pilgrims & Indians thing is just more consumerist garbage that was slapped over it in the 50s. You don't need to believe in that crap to enjoy the underlying meaning. There's nothing wrong with celebrating.

Thank you OP. I will now start celebrating genocides from now on.

Guys, what's your favourite genocide? I think the Holocaust has got a lot of publicity so it should be pretty good to check out. But you don't get to eat the special turkey for this occasion, which is kind of a shame.

Most countries celebrate crap. Most celebrations are either religious, or about wars and such. But if you dare criticize it, all the "patriotic" fanatics start screaming because they don't have the ability to understand that there's a difference between them and their country/ancestors/whatever, and so they feel the need to defend those celebrations no matter how retarded it is. Nothing surprising though.

>>803169 but it's because celebrations are retarded! But we humans enjoy celebrating things, even if they don't make any sense! It's the joy of the holiday, it's the special food we might indulge in! It's the fireworks! It's the dances! That is what we really celebrate, that what we really enjoy!!
And don't think that we do this recently. Probably, is something we've been doing since our dawn as a homo sapiens species. It's deep beneath our bones and cultures.
The more you know
