Ajit Pai and the FCC are being sued by 18 Attorney Generals for fraud due to them ignoring the request to halt the vote during a criminal investigation.
The vote was just to agree to repeal the rules- it won't go into law until its approved by Congress, who can stop it with a simple majority. And then if it gets through that, it'll take several months to a year to go into affect.
A lot of shit could happen in that time frame.

the one instance where government bs works in the people's favor
In fact, Ajit Pai's stubborness may have tightened the noose around his neck. The AG's just asked him to halt the vote until the investigation could prove whether fraud was present or not. But because he both ignored the AG's AND ignored a FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) request AND ignored the lawsuit filed after that was ignored, he looks hella guilty to everyone.

The language has changed. People aren't looking to determine if fraud was involved, now he's being sued for fraud outright.
Pyrrhic Victory indeed.

"I’ll be leading a multistate lawsuit bringing the resources of AGs across the country to bear in the fight to protect the internet and the millions of Americans who rely on it. #NetNeutrality" - Eric Schneiderman

On top of that, states are beginning to create their own Net Neutrality laws to bypass the repeal, even if the repeal were somehow successful.
Starting with Washington State: http://www.spokesman.com/stories/2017/dec/13/washington-will-keep-net-neutrality-in-state-if-fc/
The FCC said that they will shut down any attempt by a state to accomplish this, but this also reveals a weakness in the actual power of the FCC.

https://www.cnet.com/news/california-washington-take-action-after-net-neutrality-vote/ Because as you'll see from this article, the FCC, or more specifically, Ajit Pai, has a bad habit of lying through his teeth and making shit up.

The problem with a lot of the drama flying around Net Neutrality is mostly misinformation. Like most politics, the reality is that everything is more complicated than they appear. It's not as simple as a simple "vote" deciding whether net neutrality sticks around or not, it's merely the start of darkness for the bad ending.

"The FCC's dramatic course reversal in favor of Internet service providers has propelled the once-wonky issue of net neutrality into the mainstream, turning it into an increasingly political matter. Advocacy groups are expected to press Congress to stop the FCC's vote from taking effect under the Congressional Review Act.
The FCC's decision is otherwise slated to go into effect in the coming weeks, after a review by the Office of Management and Budget."

That's to pass a bill. You don't need the President for Congress to bitchslap the FCC's repeal. They just need to have a simple majority.
