I think you have no idea what "pan-arabism" is or was. Wake up, cold war is over dude! There is just capitalism everywhere, and arab-nations, like all others, are competing and fighting each other to the blood.
Also Islamism is an insanely overrated and historical misrepresented value. In the end todays islamism is nothing but third-world nazism, which was raised and supported by western (US-)politics to fight socialism/communism (or what they suspected for beeing it).

1a - It was the world wide and well known mother of terror organizations:The CIA.
1b - To gas Persians/Iranians who brang another us-/cia-puppet-dictator to fall (the "shah")

Conclusion:
Without the USA/CIA Afghanistan and Iran would be secular countries and maybe even democracys. But US politics prefered access to Oil and fuck the Soviets.
