Why is there so much autism nowadays?
| I think a main reason is due to Over-pathologization. Calling other people "autist" is one way how stupid people deal with more intelligent people.
Same is with "depression", which allows societies to immunize themselves against fundamental criticism.

| There's just a lot of dumbasses who say they have autism or use it as a defence, in reality people who actually have autism have always been around and we found tests we can do to identify them, and because we can identify them the number seems like it's going up even if it's always been roughly the same number.

Well in some cases, self diagnosis and over-pathologization go pretty well along. But yeah, in most cases people rather being called autistic as an insult than claiming themselves to be so. | Historically Autism was not a diagnosis, neurodivergent people either adapted or died. Prior to the mid-20th century society was generally easier to blend in with as well because socially things were a lot simpler/reserved.
