| These latest partial internet blocks are because Russia is testing its own sovereign internet it can fully control. Russia has reportedly poured $648 million into its national internet and tech that can power restrictions and has been seemingly working on this since at least 2019.

What they are currently testing is essentially ip whitelist. But knowing how corrupt our government is one can imagine how easy it would be to get your vpns ip address whitelisted

nah, ppl from China can use some freaky vpn algorithms to fuck with their firewall, Russias would be literally be impenetrable. If i understood correctly literally any request to foreign ip would be denied if they turned that thing on. Literal Cheburnet.
I hope that something like that would be used only on emergencies like Prigozhins rebelion or something but i wouldnt be surprised if one day all of russians would wake up in a world with our own Russian internet
