| It's not terrible, but it hasn't really grabbed me either. For a series that tried to sell itself on being "not just another death game", it doesn't really feel like it does much to stand out within the genre.
I'm not even really sure how much I believe in this as a Yoko Taro work, like iirc he's just credited as creating the original concept or some shit. Sure that means he had some influence, but I wouldn't be shocked to hear he didn't work on it much outside of that.

Believe it or not, he has more credit of this being something he made than NieR or Drakengard. The plot and premise and everything is him and he is credited as the "creator," the only thing to note is that Jin (who made Kagerou Project) is the writer and helped with giving feedback and thoughts on the plot.
Personally, I think it'll be deviating more since they said S2 will exist and with what they're building up so far, but I'm no expert on the genre so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Also yeah I'll be interested to see what the second half of the series looks like. There are some plot threads that feel like they could take pretty weird or interesting turns later.

| It's kind of cool I guess? It's just super weird on pacing sometimes. But it's pretty interesting and the hate is overblown because people saw it's 3D and immediately said it sucks before the first episode even aired.
I guess if you like Yoko Taro's other works, you'll probably enjoy this and it's also barely talked about anywhere
