I've been watching anime, reading manga and also reading light novels since I was really little since both my parents do and got me into it at a young age.
So now I feel like it's kinda losing it's magic. Watching anime takes a lot out of me for some reason, and it's hard to find shows I genuinely like anymore.
Can anyone relate?

Sort of. I feel like a lot of anime that comes out today doesn't capture the magic of the stuff I grew up watching, and even stuff I enjoy isn't the same. It's rare that an anime these days has the same kind of feeling as the old stuff, but that's true of media in general. If you compare movies from the 80s and today, there's a clear difference between the feeling of them.

>>891334 Yeah I feel like it might be that, or maybe when I was younger I was just willing to watch anything and did not much care for the quality of animation or character design or things like that so almost every show I watched was an enjoyable experience

i haven't really kept up with anime in like... decades. the last thing i watched all the way through was Puella Magi Madoka Magica + the Rebellion movie, and before that, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.
I watched about half of Violet Evergarden but haven't continued it because its on Netflix and also ultra depressing, but what little i've watched of it, I loved.
I don't like the isekai trend either.

>>891340 Isekai is the most pandering garbage out there. Alongside bringing video game conventions into anime, the fantasy genre has been almost completely ruined in anime. It's a real shame because some of my favorite older anime are fantasy, but nothing even APPROACHES the vibes of those old anime since everything is just a wank to appeal to otaku by telling them their 1337 gamer skills will get them laid.

>>891324 take a break and when I say break, you can go watch other J or K drama, western tv shows, or movies for a few weeks/months/years, play video games, and come back to anime whenever something pulls you in.
I am just like you. Watched all anime that's on tv. Grew up and start seeing the pattern on shounen shows. At that time all anime felt like shit, so I took a break.

Years later, I just accidentally stumbled on the rebroadcast of Attack on Titan randomly when I check out cable that came with my internet subscription. Looking at the show now, I have some negative things to say about Attack on Titan, but damn, at that time I was sucked into it. Imagine always being half-asleep because most characters in shounen that I used to watch have plot armor and then jumping to AOT in which characters are killed left and right.

Not to mention that I was watching bleac and the new characters looks like clown compared to military uniformed characters in AOT.
So I got back into anime and discovered a lot of good shows when I took a break. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of generic trash made in each season. Afterall, shows like Erased proves that you don't need an original story/ good writing/ good animation to be popular and well liked. But it doesn't matter if you have years of anime to catch up to.

>>891324 Almost. I feel fatigued when watching anime that I haven't watched or read before.
The uncertainty of whether I will like the anime or be bored by it puts me off watching, so I really need to force myself if I want to watch something I haven't watched before.

I've had like a 5 year break from watching anime and recently I slowly got into it again. But I'm more selective of what I watch.

Just be very selective of what you watch and you'll get hooked right in again

>>891508 Exactly, like if it's shit you feel like you've wasted time of your life when you could have been doing something you KNOW you'd enjoy, it's such a strange kind of feeling honestly

I've lasted a few decades watching anime, but there have been low points. I tend to make long lists of stuff to watch, and get either burned out or overwhelmed by how much there is and the varying impact things have as I get older. Taking breaks is good, and expanding your knowledge surrounding the genres that do click for you is important. Don't be afraid to look for stuff off the beaten path now and then.

>>891619 Yeah, there's also the fact that we rarely get the satisfaction of the story being concluded. That's tiresome as well...

>>aa7a76 same, I reckon I'm just jaded at life. I've talked to several people who say that SAO is their fav anime and I just don't understand.
I still really enjoy rewatching classics though. There was a neat moment when I was watching higurashi and appreciated the subtly as someone older and understood why I liked it so much when I was younger because of the emotional significance it had as a show that dealt with mental illnes and still told a great story. Edgy but mature.

It's kinda sad that the majority these days are mostly power trip isekais and those competing to be waifu of the season.
But I also recognize the jadedness also hides good shows and demands higher expectations.
I dunno man I don't think their will be a show where they have a protest social services arc because the bureaucracy again. And that was a relatively subpar adaptation too!
