Why is anime so associated with hentai?

Also, the line that divides anime and hentai can be pretty blurry sometimes. (In very specific and certain animes)

| Short answer would probably be that anime tends to cater to audiences of teens and young adults (read: Generally Horny People), and that many influential creators were themselves influenced by creators like Go Nagai, Yuji Moriyama, and others that included fanservice as part of their style. It's just kind of part of anime's family lineage.
