DEVILMAN Crybaby

| I recently re-watched it, and wanted to know people's opinions on it.

When it came out, a lot of people called it anime of the year even though the year had just started. Do you still think it is? Do you even like it? Do you think it's overrated? What do you think about the story, art style, music?

Personally I love it.

| It sucks. Ugly, lazy and it kills characters like the guy who writes Game of Thrones.

| Episode 9 hurt me.

And yes it was a truly great show, the unique art style was captivating the music was amazing and the story left me broken for days.

>it kills characters like the guy who writes Game of Thrones
did you read the original devilman, or...

| >>411218
I doubt they knew that it was even based on a manga.

| >>389905 >>6a014a i don't care, still angered me and it's still ugly af, "unique art style"?, yeah if you mean a joke. I'll never understand how this was so highly praised, I was thinking that people were saying that ironically because of how ridiculous it looks and because it wasn't afraid of pornographic imagery (unlike most animes). But nah, people seem to actually put it on a pedestal. That's fine, I guess, just my opinion and how I felt about it (as OP asked).

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, even though I disagree with you and personally loved the show I can respect that you dislike it.

| >>411254
I think one of the reasons I and a lot of other people like the art style is because it is different. At least in my opinion, anime shouldn't just be one art style. Actually one of my main criticisms of a lot of anime is that it all looks the same. So seeing something that looks different, and that at least I personally think fits the overall tone of the show (raw, surrealistic, dark, "ugly"), made me enjoy it a lot more.

Also, I agree with >>411262.

| Did you think it was supposed to be a pretty anime? Would you have preferred if it was sao sameface but bright and colorful?
You're entitled to your opinion, but people are entitled to think your opinion is bullshit too

| >>411303 tbh that post would have been fine if it didn't come across so dickish
>i don't understand personal taste so i'm gonna shit on everyone else's

| It liked, but I wouldn't go as far as giving it AOTY. BUT (again) looking at how it is already september and how weak this years is, I'd probably give it AOTY at the end of the year.

Music and animation is great. The story... they could have explained the god and lucifer thing better. It makes perfect sense for people who play SMT like me, but I can imagine a lot of people get confused near the end.

Best scene is still the ep 1 massacre, worst scene is the park scene near the end

| Started decent, ended horribly. Main character was annoying and just dumb, "YEAH, LETS MAKE THE DEMON GUY LOSE CONTROL DURING A HUGE PUBLIC EVENT TO SAVE THE WORLD! WHAT COULD GO WRONG? DUURRRR". Villain was nonsensical for the most part. All the sex and nudity felt tacked on and unnecessary, the winged lady fight fuck was ridiculous in worst sense of the word. And after Evangelion, the ending just felt derivative as fuck.

4/10

Dude
You must be trolling because original devilman was the inspiration for evangelion and a TON of other stuff

| >>411493
Yeah. I too feel like some of it's concepts are very similar to SMT, which might be why I don't find the whole religious aspect weird.

>>411555
I don't think the main character was ever supposed to be smart. He also believed that revealing that demons where real would be a good idea, but quickly came to realise that it was all a set up by Ryo as soon as the sports guy turned, buy by then it was too late..

| >>411618
That is true. Evangelion was heavily inspired by the original Devilman manga, and one of the reasons this new Devilman adoption gets praised by old school fans is because it follows the original manga almost perfectly while still being different in a few ways. Though the ending in this anime is the exact same as the ending in the original manga.

Lots of other serious anime have animation without being colorful or lookin the same, the problem is the uncanny valley of most scenes in Devilman (that running scene was so fucking hilarious!). And I'm fine if people find my opinion shit, it's just my point of view.

Living and learning, no idea why I looked so agressive, maybe I was just in a bad mood lmao

| >>411736
That running is pretty fucking hilarious.

| I love the show. I was first hyped because I'm a fan of Masaaki Yuasa. I enjoy cynical and surreal media, so this anime is right up my alley. As for the art style, it's what I expect from Yuasa's studio. It's not their most outlandish anime, but there's still much of that visual story telling and stylized atmosphere. Yuasa anime are always a nice break from the norm. I'm happy him and his team are the ones to have adapted one of Go Nagai's works.

| People keep saying that the apocalyptc arch is bad and complete nonsense but dude what do you expect of the human beings, of course we would kill each other
